Burns/Laryea, Cotto/Mayorga, Lee/McEwan & Martinez/Dzinziruk RbR!

TFFP, like myself, saw through Martinez, Hairy.

Just hadn't seen anything from Burns before that suggested he was the man to do it.

And yes, Uchiyama will most likely beat Burns, Ricky is a nice lad and works hard but not World class, even in this barren division. Uchiyama just looks the better fighter, if that makes sense?

 

There isn't a report on the BBC site yet, says it all really. A World Title Fight involving a British Champion and over an hour afterwards it hasn't been reported by the biggest broadcaster in the world.

 

I think Burns looks impressive .Tbh 80 percent of punches tonight were eye catchers from Burns Leyera ( pish ) .I like Burns's condition as well he's in top shape looks like a top pro ( Ricky Hatton torso )

Hardly makes up for all my wrong calls in the past. But at least Burns showed a chin approaching my level that night, Martinez could rock him but not put him away (although thats because he's a sloppy **** as well)

 

I don't think that because certain attributes are potentially in favour of another fighter and vice versa, it means that they're equal. Burns might throw better combinations and have a better defence, but Uchiyama can throw punches in bunches and protect himself as well. The same goes for me saying Uchiyama is a better body puncher, has a better jab etc. Burns can, obviously, do all those things well.

It might be down to how you gauge just how much a difference there is between them for each attribute. For example, say you have 6 attributes you are ranking and each fighter is better in 3 of them.

Fighter A - Power
Fighter A - Hooks
Fighter A - Jab
Fighter B - Speed
Fighter B - Uppercuts
Fighter B - Heart

Just because the attributes are split, it doesn't mean they're on even terms. Fighter A could be so much better with a jab than Fighter B, whilst he is just behind Fighter B in terms of speed.

IMO, I feel Uchiyama is the better fighter although Burns has some things in his favour. I hope that I've got my point across! :good

 

I don't think I've ever seen Uchi to know how Burns would do. I'll have to swat up on this kid.

 

I'd seen Burns fight prior live, labouring to a points win over a good journeyman is Youseff Al Hamidi (he's made a fair few prospects work hard before) but that didn't suggest he could beat someone of 'fringe contender' class like Martinez.

Martinez himself had only really beaten Cool. Who had only really beaten Arthur. Who had really only beaten Gogaladze.

Awful lineage as of late, the 'WBO Super Featherweight World Championship', pathetic.

I really can't be arsed to find out exactly who was saying it. It hardly matters...who. Are you going to be impressed because I write a name or two? You can find out just as easily as I can, if you really want to.

Yes, nearly everyone was bumming Martinez religiously. Yes, he was a relatively big favourite, and rightly so because Burns was pretty much a nobody at that level. But it was hardly the biggest upset in history, he was like 2/9 on, and you should probably just accept that beating Nicky Cook does not make a guy amazing at all. It speaks for itself that he was highly overrated, he lost to Ricky Burns! and I for one don't care for all the excuses surrounding it either, he got beat by the better man. A better man that is nothing but solid.
