not really, he beat the number one ranked superfeatherweight for his first title, that alone is much better than a victory over the European champion

Martinez was not the no.1 fighter. Who gives a **** what The Ring says? There is no way that Martinez had done anything to be ranked the no.1 junior lightweight. He'd beat Nicky Cook and some journeyman.

I thought the long departed Wallet dispelled that myth ages ago? He wasn't ranked number 1 anywhere if I remember rightly?

Bull****, this isn't the 1940's pal, things dont work like that anymore regardless of how much we'd like them too.

Burns has beaten world class operators like Martinez Katsidis and Moses. The title's he's earned have been deserved, he was a top superfeather and he's now a top lightweight

    Deal with it

 Are you serious? Martinez is a crude plodder, who's best win was over average Nicky Cook. Katsidis was over the hill and a gatekeeper when Burns got in the ring with him, and Moses is a solid win..but world class operator? Get the **** out of here.

How can you say he's earned his titles? His best win was against a shot Michael Gomez, then beat the ice cream man Youssef Al Himidi to get a shot at Martinez, defended against a string of **** poor opponents, moves up and gets the WBO belt handed to him, so how did he earn it?

when Maritinez beat cook folk wernt saying that ,folk were syaing he was a good operator iat world level .regardles of what you say Burns has stepped up and beaten better fighters than mitchell to date. that to me is the difference between the two up to this point ,but on Sat we will see what Mitchell is made off ,i have it points burns i can see Burns overcoming maybe an early knockdown to frustrate Mitchell and out manouvere him ...

And yet the mighty Kevin Mitchell hasn't even come close to matching those poor accomplishments, just shows how bad he is

I stand firm in my belief that Martinez, Katsidis, and Moses were world class meaning top 15 at the time Burns beat them

Martinez was never no.1 SFW at all, was viewed as top 5 at least but not number 1. He only beat Nicky Cook FFS.

People forget that John Murray was the undefeated, European champion when Mitchell knocked him out. There's not too much difference between the quality of that win, along with Prescott in comparison to Moses, Katisdis and Martinez.

A better Katsidis KOd Mitchell but Martinez had Burns down too lest we forget...

Way I see it is that Ricky has 3 very solid wins, winning two titles and Mitchell has two very solid wins, winning no titles. Frank has done well by Ricky.

    Still think Burns takes it.

Mitchell cant fight in the states so big fights will be hard to get if he wins.

    A very good question with a very good answer from yours truly;

Ricky Burns is the best win for British boxing!

    1. It is good for Britain that with have Scottish, Welsh, English and all Irish World champions at times. It keeps a great national rivalry and it gets bums on seats all over Britain.
    2. Ricky winning will prove that early career losses are nothing to be overly concerned about and that up and coming fighters should not be afraid of being tested.
    3. Ricky winning will send a message out to British boxing that a skilful, safety first, tidy style will succeed over raw power and toe to toe action.
    4. Ricky is liked all over Britain and will sell out anywhere, which means undercards won't generally be too localised.
    5. Ricky is clearly a hardworking lad, his skills give him a better chance at competing internationally as an export.
    6. Ricky's likeability will charm abroad and he's less likely to get robbed and he's more handsome than Mitchell.

Is this because of a criminal record?

What (if any) criminal convictions are there?

I knew he had some problems, but to be honest I've always just concernd myself with what he did inside the ring and haven't paid much attention to other matters.

    :goodYou're right mate, not a bad answer!:D

Anyone who watched the first 3 rounds of Martinez/Cook realised what a poor skillset Martinez possesses, he can't box for ****, anyone with a solid chin and a jab will beat him.

When did I say Mitchell has beaten better guys then Burns? That has nothing to do with what I'm saying..Burns will dominate Mitchell.

I'm the biggest Mitchell critic on here (apart from dftaylor of course) so what are you talking about.

And because they were top 15 that doesn't make them world class, they just operate at world level.
