Katsidis proved to be of gatekeeper level at the time, 5 months after losing to Burns he lost to Albert Mensah...

Did I say Gomez was his best win? I said at the time Burns got his title shot

Surely Salgado? His win over Linares is better then Martinez win over Cook.

Burns has beaten guys at the lower end of what you'd call world level... Martinez was in hindsight a bit overrated, but Burns was still stuck on his arse in the first and hurt several times in that one, yet won relatively clearly.

Katsidis again.... you didn't really know what he had at the time. I think he left it all in there against Marquez, even though he was ultimately dominated it was an outstanding showing.... with that being his second KO loss in a tilt at THE lightweight champion there was always the danger that he'd be cooked after that.

Moses... I expected Burns to win that one, but not by a shut out, good showing.

Mitchell is a good fighter but I really don't see how you can LOGICALLY pick him over Burns. Look at the formlines, Kevin's best wins are all a level below those that Ricky has, and his career has stalled badly on multiple occasions for various reasons since his breakthrough against Johanneson back in 2008.

Plus the bad KO defeat against Katsidis, who Burns handled.

Not at all, he's just not very good, he's clearly improved a bit after being stopped by Joksan Hernandez though.

Obviously Salgado has proven himself now, but the Linares win could've been seen as a fluke back then. Momentum wasn't with him either after being dominated by a fairly green Uchiyama. He was still ranked around 4-5 position by most if I remember correctly.

Also, don't forget that Martinez had some decent B-C level wins over Francisco Lorenzo, Daniel Jimenez and Walter Estrada. It's not like his record is/was just Nicky Cook ;)

This fight is dividing opinions for one reason... it will be a close fight. If either boxer wins they will continue to do British Boxing well. I am more excited about in my opinion will be fight of the year

Burns, he deserves it more and has put so much hard work into his career. Yeah he has fought some bums since he became a champion but he has been the underdog many times and keeps surprising people.

Course he does - especially when he's unable to fight in America due to drugs charges!

Are you trolling? I really hope you are. Burns has been involved in some great fights at world level. Martinez was potentially the fight of the year, Katsidis had some very good action and he put on a very good showing vs Moses. He has excellent punch variety, a fairly tight defence and his lack of power often means you get the full 12 in his fights.

If you have to "endure" watching a fighter like Burns, then I'm not sure boxing is for you. Also, I'm unsure as to how you think Mitchell has the better style when Burns is the better all round operator.

:verysad Another example of terrible ESB hyperbole to just pick apart someone's record. If Moses wasn't World Class, what's your definition of it then? P4P ranked? Because that's not how it works. Every division, regardless of how weak it is in comparison to others', needs world class fighters in it to fight for world titles. Moses had even won a title, as well as mixing in good company, so to dismiss him as being not being anywhere near world class is ridiculous.

You obviously hadn't watched much of Martinez either before Burns then. He was beating solid opponents in very impressive manner and was certainly top 3 if not top 2 at the time. But you reckon he was just a plodder who'd only beaten Nicky Cook? Ok.....:tired. The Katsidis win is now quick to be derided but I'm sure you followed the crowd in predicting Burns to be KO'd before it. I said on here beforehand that I felt Burns would nick it because Katsidis had looked off the pace and less of the relentless force against Guerrero but I've never taken away the fact it was a step up for Ricky and a real good win.

Some people just love to criticise and moan on here, and will just exaggerate tgeir arguments to make them look right. I don't understand it honestly

Neither deserved their title shots anyway.

Whoever wins, will be fed cans from the WBO bin. Burns is used to it.

    I'm serial!

I was half trolling, of course you don't have to endure watching Burns, although I do find him a bit boring, that might be due to his level of opposition. Mitchell is a more explosive fighter and I like his style and the spite he puts on his punches,.

Burns is better all round but does nothing exceptionally well or nothing that stands out, it's to do with personal taste, I prefer watching Mitchell, I didn't say he was the better fighter.

As for you saying that ''Boxing might not be for me?'' I didn't only start watching boxing yesterday you know, tell that to a teenager that don't know his arsehole from his elbow by all means, not to sombody that has watched it for over 20 years. :good
