Right this is going to sound like one of those 'uncles best mates dogwalker' stories, but here we go. A guy I work beside runs the Airdrie United under 13's, he was on the phone to someone from the club today and I heard him say 'that's good news about the Ricky Burns fight'. I asked him what he was talking about and he said that the Burns unification fight is '99% certain' for New Broomfield in the summer.

Having read this back I realise it sounds like I'm slevering absolute pish, but this is what he told me. Perhaps Billy can give us confirmation?

Burns was in the papers (Daylate Rhebel, I think) saying he wanted it to be there and he thinks he'll be able to draw a 15,000 crowd.

15,000 looking at the crowds he's drawing in Glasgow I'd doubt that very much.

A unification fight can be sold though. Burns has not been promoted at all.

I dont reckon FW's got any interest in making the unification fight.

he could try partick thistle ,as its a smaller size and more realistically .He could do hampden but that will be too big ,if he did it at Celtic Park again that would be great ,but its too big and id be surprised he held at the huns ground as its full of vermin and knuckle draggers and there skint so they would proberly wont too much to try and pay there ever increasing debt.

i think partick would be better option as it is a realistc size but i can see how airdires ground is in with a shout ,plus if you have either old firm team you tend to find you could be alienating potential ticket sales

im yet to be convinced myself. would be out of character for Warren to go forward with a unification fight this early on. expect him to take as many voluntary defenses as he can get out of the WBO and fight a few bums.

would love to see a fight with Fana though

He was on SSN on Monday saying he hoped to get "The Rocky Belt" and hopefully they could get it sorted for New Broomfield.

but my point stands, given the numbers he could expect it would make sense to have it at partick thistle or airdries ground...could get maybe 10 thou -13/14 thou and it would die a death at a bigger ground

I think the point of New Broomfield is that it would be a hometown type thing, im pretty sure Airdrie is the nearest stadium to Coatbridge.
