Why would it kill him to admit it? If Burns overachieved that is to the credit of his trainer and matchmaker. Anyway, anyone with any understanding of boxing knows Billy did an unbelievable job with Burns.
It killed him to admit that Ricky drew/lost to a fighter in the ring before (sure it was Beltran) when he got put on the spot. He tried to say it was a fair result - his face painted a picture that 1000 words couldn't speak. He KNEW he was wrong. He even admitted to saying he said the wrong thing on here. Billy seems like one of those guys that struggles to take even constructive criticism. His defines mechanism kicks in and it's all "get it up ya!" "How could Ricky ever overachieve etc". Funny how MOST people agree that he overachieved yet his ex-trainer doesn't. Wonder why? It's great that we've got Billy on here, we need more like him on here, but would it kill him to just admit him being wrong once in a while? I think it would.
You're right that he was always defiant and biased when it comes to any boxers he has worked with. Fair enough. But i don't blame him in some cases when most of the baiting is personal insults from people who do so behind the safety of their broadband connection.
What a load of *******s being put on this thread. Burns still beats any lightweight in the UK & there's not a hope Eddie would stick Campbell in with him just now.
I sent you a private message weeks ago offering to meet and you didn't reply. Don't act the tough man on here and then bottle it when I offer to come and see you, you morbidly obese piece of ****.
I'd imagine his public conduct was part of the reason Ricky left. Aside from his pathetic behaviour on here, the cut throat gesture at the Crawford weigh-in was extremely embarrassing for boxing as a whole. Blobby is not a man anyone would want to be associated with.
One thing I'm sure of is this place would be better if it were frequented by more people in the game than by two hats hiding behind their keyboard spouting sh-it, Billys defence of Ricky has overstepped the mark at times and it's sometimes difficult to see past loyalties especially when it's paying the bills but the stick he gets on hers from no marks is a joke
In my opinion Ricky Burns perhaps did overachieve in his career. In that he went in with and beat guys who were perhaps more naturally gifted boxers. He beat them through his sheer will to win and always giving 100% and working to his strengths. That is in no way a pop at Ricky, its far from it, in fact a huge compliment, to both the fighter and his coach. The same way that its a compliment to say Carl Froch overachieved for someone of his natural boxing ability. Burns v Campbell would be an interesting fight, probably slightly favour Campbell at the moment for no other reason than he is the guy on the roll and on the up. I think Campbell's upwards curve has just overtaken Burns' downwards curve.
whats all this over achieved nonsense , you do not become a world champion unless your very good, fact is burns is a two weight world champ which means he is a good boxer full stop, you cant say he has over achieved because it was him that done it and won them belts yes he is not elite but the facts are he has achieved what he has by being very good, he is not somebody that has been giving a world title, lets no forget he defended it ten times that means there were probably 6 mandatory defences, which means the best in that organisation ACHIEVED that shot by also being very good, getting 1 world title shot means you are a boxer with great ability to win one means your very good and to defend it 10 times means your an exceptional professional. Give the lad a break he is making a living putting his life on the line like every other boxer, having the ***** to climb through the ropes is an achievement let alone being a world champion
Sorehole the gangsta hahah you haven't got a clue ya c*nt keep mouthing off and eventually along the line it will catch up with you. Try and be nice for a change it might get you somewhere
You can become world champ if your division is weak, which is in Rickys case, and when you are highly protected & spoon fed bums on a plate to feast on until night falls. When ricky stepped up against the true elite, or the elite's sparring buddies, then he got found out Every fighter indeed should be commended for their courage for getting in the ring, but we don't have to pretend they're great fighters once they step in that same ring.
