Ricky Burns makes bid for a British superfight against Amir Khan ***Mod edit*** No posting articles in forum!
Horrible set of coincidences will occur that lead to offers being rejected or pulled, then we see Ricky 3 times in the UK against average guys. We have all copped on, but the average joe ticket buyer will get wise to it also
**** Ricky Burns. The guy is possibly the worst champion I've seen. Broner and Khan put an ass whooping on this kid...
I'd love it if he faced Khan but I admit, he needs to fight Broner first. We've waited for this fight for long enough, time to get it on. The winner can step up and face a big name at 140lbs.
If Derry is ranked 80th then he aint gonna get a fight with Burns, that ranking is way to high for him to get the fight.
It is starting to seem pretty clear that Burns wants nothing to do with Broner. He is simply using Khan's name for a bit of publicity there is very little chance of this fight happening
And this is unquestionably the worst post I've seen - impressive work cos there's been some sheeeiiite on here!
Whatever you think of him as a fighter - I know where the kid comes from and people who know him and can assure you that he is not dodging anyone. The kid has no fear - quite literally he'd fight King Kong if they put gloves on him, he just loves to fight. Whether his promoters want the fights or how well he'd do is a different matter but I learned not to doubt him when I said (against the grain on here) that I thought he would be competitive "for a while" with Martinez but lose - when in reality, other than one punch, he stood him on his head. I really don't get how some fans selectively judge - John Murray gets his ass handed to him by Kevin Mitchell and then fights Rios (doing better against Rios than Murray) and nobody was bitchin' about Rios. Burns wipes the floor with Mitchell and he's cherry picking. Yes he was coming down the ladder a bit and I was disappointed in the choice of opponents for this one - but he's hardly unique in that regard. British Promoters have a history of doing it - one of the reasons I rarely go live now
"Wants" doesnt mean he gets. Burns deserves those fights now, but its not him that is making them, and by being put into fights that he has been put in, especially these last 3 failed fights, Walsh, Ocampo and Derry, isnt going to get him those big fights any quicker. A champion elite at the weight isnt going to pluck Ricky Burns out like magic, they have to see what Ricky is bringing to the table, so they look at who he has been fighting and what numbers he is making. People looking at the record would assume he is a bum fighting bums and a domestic level fighter. And the only way Ricky would get a fight sooner rather than later would be because the opponent thinks he is easy work and hasnt fought anybody like them.
Anyone else read into that article that Derry's gonna get the shot? Hope I'm wrong, Burns is past all that now FFS.
