Man I really should have seen this fight. God knows how I haven't, the Olivera fight was a sick performance from Augustus and I've rooted for him since I saw it a few years back. An unlucky guy, but **** knows how I haven't seen this fight yet, especially due to it's reputation (ring fight of the year if I'm not mistaken) but at least it's easily accesible. A relative has all the ring fights of the year so I'll watch it. maybe this thread will pick up some steam....eventually
If I remember right I had Augustus edging it despite the knockdown. Terrific fight though, even better than the second and third Gatti-Ward fights imo. It was a while ago though I'll have to watch it again.
It was a great fight with many close rounds, but I had Augustus just ahead 95-94. As far as I remember only the 4th, 7th, 9th & 10th round were kind of clear rounds... the other ones could basically have gone to either of the two.
Probably my favorite brawl of all time...I suggest just sitting down and enjoying it before scoring it. Incidentally I scored it for Augustus by a point every single time because of his cleaner punching. There should have been a rematch...or 5. Not controversial or anything however.
the last round when ward throws 130+ punches is almost comedic in comparison to other fights. i had it a round up to augustus but a knockdown and a swarming ward in the later rounds tipped the balance. crisper punching and defence from augustus is what i leaned more towards. but in this fight it was a win-win situation even if you lost you still leave with more than you gained ala gatti-ward.
