How fast were his hands comparable to other superheavies?

    Who is he comparable to?

I think his handspeed is comparable to Lewis, with the edge going to Buster.

**** yeah, Ali, Patterson, peak Super Greg Page, Dokes etc. Douglas is definitely on the second rung tho. 4.5-5

Ali and Patterson were hardly superheavies. Douglas was, what, 230-235 pounds when he met Tyson. Patterson never got above 200 as far as I know and Ali in his prime was 210-215 pounds. Against Lyle and in the third fight against Frazier he was around 225, though, and still had faster hands than Douglas. But for a 230+ guy I think Douglas showed very good hand-speed, and good footwork as well.

Sorry mate, guilty of not reading the thread.

So i'm back to say, Greg Page and Michael Dokes, Dokes being lighter than Buster. As i said tho, i think Douglas has super fast hands for a heavyweight, and when you add your 230 pounds + on he's dynamite.

    I was being serious. :)

I don't know a lot about him, and footage is hard to find, so I was going to ask you why you liked him, what kind of potential he had...

He was touted as the next Ali, and many thought he might turn into the best ever early on. His combination of size/speed/power/reflex seemed incredible. The lazy bugger wasted near all of it tho. He had a penchent for hitting the refrigerator more often as the heavy bag. Later given his weight he finally decided to fight more stationary, and actually outfought Coetzee this way before laying him out. In other fights like vs Witherspoon he was lucky nobody harpooned him.

    Ahhahaa.

He knocked Tyson on his ass during sparring right before Douglas, right?

Do you feel he could of upset Tyson at that point?

What did he accomplish, despite his weight issues?

His handspeed was great. For superheavies, he was on par with Wlad/Vitali Klitschko, Lewis, Bowe, Ibeabuchi, Golota and others. In other words, the very top.

I'm still trying to get my hands on a copy of Tucker / Douglas.

Page was way over the hill by the time he dropped Tyson in sparring. Tyson would have killed him for real.

Well he knocked Coetzee totally cold to win the WBA title, Holmes dropped the WBC belt refusing him as a mandatory, he beat Snipes in better fashion than Holmes or Witherspoon and he had some excellent early wins performance wise. He showed an incredible chin vs Rudduck when way over the hill. But really, with his combo of speed and power and overall ability he really should have been summin. If he had the discipline and professionalism of a Larry Holmes who knows what he may have achieved.
