I dont know why, but everytime this guy comments, he seems to despise Tyson? He seems to really hate Tyson and have this problem with him. Does anybody notice this or is it just me? His comments arent just "the better man at the end of the day" type comments, they tend to be more hateful Is there any reason why?
Which trainer? John Johnson or J.D. McCauley? I know that Johnson hated Don King with a passion. Can't say too much for what they thought of Tyson.
John Russel was Douglas trainer for the Tyson fight. John Johnson was his manager. Russel took over after Douglas and his dad parted ways. Russel is bitter because of the way Tyson and King handled the loss. They tried to rob Douglas of his glory, and the way Tyson just brushed it off as not being prepared probably pissed him off because it robbed him of his glory too. Dont really blame him.
You're probably thinking of John Johnson, Buster's manager -- I know he did a lot of interviews after the fight and leading up to Buster-Holy. I'll be darned if I can ever remember the trainer being interviewed. But LH31 is correct, I think, in that it was the complete dismissal by Tyson and the ploy by King to make a long-count controversy out of it that ticked him off as both took away from his guy's historic win.
its the white dude with the glasses. Ill find the vids somewhere, he just coems across as quite hateful towards Tyson
Yes but Russell is a straight up dude. Good guy. I wouldnt have cared much for Tyson either around that time.
Yeah, the fact that Tyson was 90% of the time an ******* for about 20 straight years might explain why some guys in boxing don't have much warmth towards him.
In fairness, what Tyson's people tried to pull at the back of the Douglas fight would be enough to turn just about anybody against the figurehead, right or wrong.
Theres a lot of interviews with him here [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jP8r5uaipe8[/ame] [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BSBqWNjqroQ&feature=related[/ame] [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lymJP1HrRAQ&feature=related[/ame] I never got that impression myself though, seemed like he was talking a lot of sense to me
Agreed. Just annoyance from the "He didn't train, he wasn't in shape." Basically they were literally trying to take everything from Douglas that night. Trying to get the belt back, and then the excuses when that felt.
A large, large portion of the hate Tyson accrued amongst the boxing insiders, he well deserved. He's been a solid, decent man for about 5 years. Before that, he did a good job of disgracing the game for many, many years. Not that it needed a TON of help, mind you, but he added a lot of visibility to some pretty disgusting acts. I think Douglas and his people have been incredibly fairminded towards Mike and his, considering they tried to pull the heist of the decade and lift Buster's legitimate, career defining win from him.
I always thought it was King who tried his best to take away Busters win, Tyson ahs admitted he didnt train hard, but always gave buster credit
