Buster Douglas v Joe Frazier - Who ranks higher and why?

Ali never went to prison. I'm surprised nobody mentioned it . He couldn't get a boxing license for three and one half years while he successfully appealed his conviction.

 

Frazier. Frazier didn't shine for just one night.

 

Is Douglas even in the conversation when it comes to Heavyweight greats? Frazier had the better career.

Buster was an ATG for one night. Frazier had an ATG career.

 

Gotta go with Frazier. He beat the best Ali, and had a greater career than Buster ever had. Douglas became champion in a flash and lost it just as fast.

I don't know about Frazier having an ATG career. He beat a post-exile Ali. That's it. Frazier has 0 wins of note besides that. The likes of Bonavena, Quarry, heavyweight Bob Foster, just aren't impressive. Every top fighter beat those guys. Frazier is overrated.

Please. Who out of the five who beat Ali beat him at his best then? Not Norton, Frazier was the first to beat him.

 

That's not what you wrote though. What you wrote makes it seem like he beat the best version of Ali. But you meant that out of the guys that beat Ali, Frazier beat the best version. Two different things.

 

No I was clear at what I said. There's no other way you Can interpret it. You think I was calling Ali the GOAT? Frazier beat a prime Ali, I don't understand the misunderstanding.

 

Don't tell me a 29-year-old Ali was not the best anymore. That's an exaggerated claim and in any case - how great can you be if you are over the hill at 29? Ali beat Foreman and Frazier while past it? It sounds like blind hero-worshipping to suggest that Ali was able to beat multiple ATGs while past it.

The seventies version of Ali was different from the sixties version of him - and that doesn't mean it was an inferior version at all. Could the sixties version beat Foreman? Very doubtful. The older Ali had more power, more experience and more ring generalship. Seventies Ali wasn't a nineties Foreman = just an old guy with power. FOTC Frazier would have been a brutal matchup for any version of Ali.

 

So post-exile Ali was Ali at his best? Are you smoking crack? Not even close.
