Taking Douglas...who was fighting for his mom who had passed...and wouldn't quit that night. Quarry has his moments....but gets stopped on cuts late.
Peak douglas very very easily. BIG man with great handspeed, footwork, punch selection, boxing skills and decent power. Not to mention he was ready to go through hell that night. Douglas was a great fighter that night.
Douglas whips him. Jerry could box and he could brawl with almost anyone. Almost. He just wasn't able to find success against the top guys. He takes a boxing lesson before being stopped, probably after a knockdown or two.
IMofJL, there's really nothing to discuss....that version of Douglas easily beats Quarry at his peak. We're talking perfection here....perfection....disregarding completely the 8th round kd...
It was the best boxing performance by a shw ive seen against any opponent, his accuracy, punch selection and control of distance was unreal! He was teeing off on him almost like Tysons head was the floor to ceiling bag. Lennox Lewis has some great boxing performances also but they were less combative/active efforts with less punches thrown. Douglas actually looked better against Tyson than Lewis did. Tyson abandoned alot of his techniques after firing his trainer but he was still in his physical prime, actually looked better in tokyo than he did against bruno the year before and would have still beaten most other HWs that night.
