    True,

Spinks is a difficult fighter to rate at heavyweight. We have very little to go by except a close decision over a shot Holmes. The Cooney and Tangstad fights don't tell us much. He basically just showed up to collect his good will check against Tyson. h Who knows how he would have done had he met some of the other top raters between 1985-1987 like Tubbs, Witherspoon, Bruno, Douglas, Tucker, etc. He could have beaten all of those guys or lost to everyone for all we know.

I for one am not a believer in Spinks as a heavyweight.... the idea of Spinks fighting Tucker...Douglas... pinklon thomas or some of the other 80's fighters gives me the idea that the reason he did not fight them was because he was not confident he could beat them...... His heavyweight choices were very calculated... i give him tons of respect for beating Holmes... but the fact is that he did not have the ability to beat any of the younger heavies at the time.... Holmes was slow... Cooney was flawed... to none of Spinks fault/////, but they were not considered prime fighters i do not think
