i'm going with morrison who showed against foreman that he can box strategically. buster was very good in tokyo but looked great because tyson didn't know how to deal with him!
Buster by KO. Remember, Buster's prime was the Tyson fight. That night, Douglas was something special.
He sure was. I am currently reading a book about this fight and it is great hearing about some of the behind the scenes stuff surrounding this fight.
styles makes fight..he wouldn't have looked AS special against joe frazier, lennox lewis, or evander holyfield.
You know, I never did get the chance. But I want to make it out to New Jersey again one of these days and I will be sure not to miss it this time.:good
This one comes down to who tires first. Both boxers, when focused, were pretty good at doing what they did. I think Morrison would do well, before succumbing to his "5th round curse". Since Douglas's stamina problems tended not to affect him until the last third of a fight, he would be able to take advantage and stop Morrison between rounds 5 and 8.
Wow cool mathup. I see Buster winning the first six rounds, pumping the jab, using movement, and landing some combos. Tommy gets dropped in round 5. Round 7 Tommy is against the ropes taking hits, then times and lands a perfect left hook that drops Buster. Buster barely beats the count, then a slugfest ensues. Buster is still groggy though, and Tommy uses head movement and unloads several more hooks and the ref saves Buster from further punishment. Morrison TKO 7. Great matchup. I dont see Tommy getting hurt early ala Lewis, I believe Lewis had more power in the right hand.
Man, I can't figure this one out for the life of me. I could never plan on which version of either guy would show up. It'd be an exciting matchup, maybe I'd give Buster the edge since he had the better peak performance and didn't have as bad performances at his worst.
Morrison could land that left hook and its curtains. Buster has a million other ways to win. I'd have to go with Buster in this one!
The foot movement and size of Buster translates to Tommy hitting a moving target clean. I don't see it. As a matter of fact, like Kurgan stated Tommy faded earlier of the 2. What he did earlier than the dreaded gastank problem was to start to fall for feints real bad. That jab and right hand land and Tommy starts falling for feints. These things don't allow him to wing hooks in there and things just get progressively worse. I also think his skin doesn't hold up well against the punches Douglas throws and he gets cut or swells. The big effect of this is keeping Buster on track because he is "on top" of a vulnerable opponent where he can do his wash rinse repeat thing until the bout is stopped on a tko. Wrong guy for Tommy. I think he needs stationary targets and certainly does not need a jabber and mover.
Douglas KO's him mid rounds after he's wore him down, he busts him up with the jab and leans his weight advantage on him and once Morrison's been wore down, Douglas lands a few power shots and KO's him
