Due to chins and passion, I'd give Buster a shot at Wlad in a time machine, not a chance against Vitali....:happy

He's far better than Tucker. He'd trounce Douglas, Wlad would win also, but that would be very close for me.

Vitali is better than Tucker no question, but Wlad is a better fighter than either of 'em. For me though Buster at his rare and focussed best beats both, most likely close decisions, though he might stop Vitali if he's on Tokyo form. Remember too he was way ahead against Tucker, just gave up- but we're talking best performances here.

I think most people realize that Tyson was no way past his prime, or as you put it a shell for the Douglas fight. Simply a case of totally underestimating his opponent as well as training and preparing accordingly to how easy he reckoned the fight would be- he was still 23 for goodness sake, certainly no way past prime. Still an awesome performance from Buster, though. Even a fully prepared Tyson wouldn't have had things entirely his own way that night.

Wlad may be more skilled but Vitali could steamroller through Douglas without much problem. Style-wise, his best night wouldn't help him, the boxing skill vs Wlad would make it close, like I said but I still favour either Ukranian. Douglas is in danger of being even more overrated than even Tucker here.

Douglas jab in full flow would cause Vitali problems, he potentially had enough power to keep Vitali from getting through with too many big shots as well. He did have a solid enouigh chin. Thing is too that in Tokyo Douglas took some lumps, but didn't get discouraged and kept firing back. Outside of the Peter performance (who didn't impress me at all) Vilati's best display is usually seen as most for being the Lewis fight. Lennox came into that one in way poor shape, and was a fwe or more years removed from his best, yet cut Vitali's face to ribbons on the inside.

Of course you could say the same about Douglas too, but neither brother put on a display like 23/2/90. I think the skill think would work against Vitali.

Well, Lewis looked as up for the fight as Tyson ever did.

The myth of Douglas is just a crutch for Tyson fans. He would lose to both Klitschko brothers fairly routinely.

On average, I'd pick both to stop Buster Douglas, but the guy who fought Tyson in Tokyo just might get to Wladimir-- might have even outpointed Vitali.

We'll never truly know just how good Buster was in Tokyo. He looked damn good - his jab was pumping, he was putting combo's together and he punched with authority.
I accept that Tyson in part made him look good, but Mike wasn't totally off in Tokyo. He didn't look that bad for the first few rounds and he had Douglas on the floor.

Douglas could have come in scared shitess for Tyson, he could have resigned himself to losing and picking up a payday, but he didn't. He could not have known that Tyson wasn't fully prepared.
All he had to do was be the Douglas everyone was expecting to show up.
Yet, Douglas came in fit and trim and ready to do war. That tells me a lot about his mindset at the time.

I think that version matches up pretty well with the Klitschko brothers.
He lacks Wlad's power, but he's more rythmic and fluid. He lacks Vitali's chin, but he has a jab at least as good.
In a battle of the jabs, I think he holds his own against either.

The rest depends on who can control fight...I honestly believe the Douglas of Tokyo vintage has a decent shot here.
That version would be the best guy Wlad has ever faced, and at worst the second best guy Vitali has ever faced.

Just to add, without going overboard about it but have the Klits faced tough opposition so far? The one standout name on Vitali's record is Lewis, but hardly a prime version. Who else? What about Wlad?

I don't know what you're looking for when you say tough. But, I think we can lable some of his opponents as being at least respectable. Douglas winning decisions over aging versions of Greg Page and Trevor Berbick was probably no different than Wlad beating an aging Chris Byrd. The Tyson win was huge, but I'm in the minority on ESB that Tyson didn't show up to fight, and that most of the 1990 top 10 would have beaten or troubled him on that evening...

What I'm saying is that Wlad in particular as champ has faced nobody who has tested him. Not one guy. I think Tokyo Douglas is far better than anyone he has faced as champ.

Vitali fought Lewis to almost a standstill, fair enough. But his quality of opposition has hardly been sparkling otherwise, has it?

A fit and ready Douglas ala Tokyo version would surely do better than Danny Williams or old fat Sanders.
