You need to look beyond a belt around someone’s waist. That’s the politest I can put it.

Douglas was immensely talented. Put the determination and grit of a Holmes/Frazier/Ali into him and he would have had a heckuva career. Excepting right uppercuts from the outside his fundamentals were simply brilliant.

Well the politest way I can put is I'm baffled you don't think beating the likes of Lennox Lewis.

And beating the likes of Pinklon Thomas who was considered the best Heavyweight in the world at that time as Holmes had lost to Spinks.

In your eyes doesn't make Berbick or McCall "world champions" it's absolutely baffling to be quite frank.

Douglas' problem wasn't his physical skill, it was his motivation and heart.

Take away the Tyson fight and Douglas would be remembered on a par ( at best ) with all the up and down , win some lose some guys of his era. A Berbick , Witherspoon, Page, Tucker, Bonecrusher, Williams, Thomas, Tubbs kind of guy.
He had one great night which sets him apart ,but that aside, he was just part of that group.,no better no worse.

He'd be below Page, Berbick, Witherspoon and Thomas. Maybe Tubbs too. Williams and Bonecrusher are good comparisons.

Yeah, people like to think of Buster as a Rocky Balboa, but no: he was a solid contender and very good fighter.

After Tokyo, I actually thought (and reasonably so imo) that Buster would roll Holyfield quite comfortably but alas, the glass slipper no longer fit Douglas’ swollen, fat foot.

The “in ring” motivation was also obviously not there - Buster making no attempt to arise after the KD - a far cry from the Douglas who scraped (willed) himself off the deck in round 8 vs Tyson - that was an ATG uppercut that Buster had to haul himself back up from.

“Solid contender” are strong words for his career.

Unpopular opinion, but I always thought Tokyo Douglas would've beaten Holyfield.

Definitely not an unpopular opinion from my view point. :D Belly flop Douglas was light years removed from Tokyo Douglas.

Unless Holyfield is just going to stand there round after round like Tyson did, even Tokyo Douglas would be in the fight of his life.
