tired of klitshcko haters and Klitshcko nuthuggers. At the time of the stoppage, - Klitshcko was ahead on the 3 scorecards but it was a CLOSE fight -The cut was caused by the thumb of LL and not the punch itself, - No one was about to be knocked out in the 7th like some may beleive here - it was a close fight that ended due to an injury, and in boxing its part of the game so STOP with the excuses
No one was getting knocked out when the fight got stopped, it was a close fight and that is why there should have been a rematch.
The funny thing is I thought this was a forum for people to discuss things, so if people have strong opinions and keep talking about it whats the problem. If people have better ideas for threads start one. Damn its better than talking about Holyfield and his comeback.
Lewis already had plenty of money, was talking about retirement for some time, was old, and came in at the highest weight of his career...a tell tell sign a fighter is past it. Ignorance is bliss....just too bad it only seems to be viewable from one side at a time.
I believe the 2nd cut was caused by a huge uppercut that staggered Vitali. Obviously that's a legit punch so yes it counts.
God knows it would've been a huge rematch and that's why everyone wanted it except Lewis, who figured he dodged a bullet, and that is his right after all.
Lewis was very canny in not taking the rematch, just as he was in many other aspects of his career, such as when he elected to fight Tyson. He retired just when it seemed likely he would lose, and so was able to retire as champion, having beaten everyone he'd faced, with a great legacy. He probably would have lost the rematch, which would have given boxing a recognised champion, but it would have been at the expense of retiring as a loser. I think he still would have been remembered as a great: no one does down Ali for the fights he lost when he'd gone on much too long, and I think a loss in the rematch would have been recognised as due to age, and a loss to a worthy champion. Then we'd probably be debating forever what would have happened if VK and LL had met when both in their primes...
Well that I don't blame Lewis. Tyson is the one who gave up his WBC belt in 1996 to fight Seldon (or was it Holyfield?) instead of Lewis.
