Alvarez showed nothing in this fight, I was actually surprised at his lack of work rate and effort. Gil Clancy always said winning the title makes a guy a 25 % better fighter, not the case here,Alvarez was actually worse in this fight.
And what was it that allowed Kovalev to both be hit by those shots and be affected by them? He was gassing both times, accurate punchers against guys with bad stamina is usually never a good mix. Last night however and in the first Ward match he was tagged with several rights, but defended against them better, didn't take the full impact flush and he was fine. Most fighters can be hurt when their defense is porous against A level fighters, including Ward, but guess what, he remedies that by being in top condition and being defensively sound, kind of like Kovalev was last night and hopefully in all of his matches in the future. Also a minor quibble, Alvarez hit him under the temple, not on the chin.
Ward "fans" have to go with this soul crap because they know he lost to him and benefitted from biased refereeing in the 2nd fight. It took bent officials and two fights for Ward to finally get some change out of Kovalev.
You are throwing around the term so loosely, that's why I asked. I am not some Kovalev fanboy who got offended. Your use of the term "shot" befuddled me. What does "shot" mean?
Jesus Christ trout gets stopped at 32 by Hurd. From losing to the top guys . Groves gets kod by froch and loses to jack . And they were calling him shot before the Chris eubank fight . Smh people can call trout and groves shot but call Kovalev shot after losing 3/5 fights. And it's a sin.....
Alvarez and team had a better game plan in the first fight and Kovalev and team had a better game plan in the second fight. It's that simple. Kovalev is not shot. It's the same Kovalev and Alvarez is no bum. When he stopped Kovalev, he set that shot up and didn't get wild in the finish.
It appears, rather clearly, to me that Kovalevs problems all along were of his own doing. He wasted a few years there. With discipline he demonstrated he is very far from done. He dominated Alvarez, to the dismay of many on this board. It was the best he has looked in a long time. Credit to himself for getting his head together, and major credit to Buddy McGirt, who knew exactly how to handle him. Now we will see if he gets to stay out of the pen....
What are you some Bloodcalt politician...the man asked you a question...more than once & you come back with talk about other fighters. They aren't ****ing kovalev ...so what did you mean by it ...& using the censor as an cover don't help bro ..tell d man!
Sometimes ppl are wrong, what’s the big deal? It was reasonable to assume Ward to took something out of Kovalev, as we’ve seen guys ruined by tough fights. My friends who know I’m a boxing nerd look at me crazy when I’m wrong with a prediction, like I’m supposed to be Nostradamus or some ish.
