I think Zhang not only hits ATG hard but that you are right: he times his shots perfectly to amplify their effect. If he bothered to run three times round the house before his fights he might have a gas tank bigger than a cigarette lighter and be a legitimate candidate for top dog.

Earnie Shavers had one of the greatest right hands in history.

Zhang has Earnie Shavers power in both hands.

And he's not knocking out 200-215 pound heavyweights.

The only two people who beat him were Hrgovic (close, somewhat controversial UD) and Parker (MD). They are also the only people to go a full 12 rounds with him.

If Zhang had a motor like, well, anyone else, he might be undisputed, but everyone has an Achilles heel and his stamina is what keeps him from being great.

joyce has a great chin. the past decade any division. no question.

we've seen duran get starched by hearns
williams getting flattened by sexy sergio.
    fullmer getting sunk by SRR
    evander aginst a few.
    mercer

and in that...he didnt get ko'd, he got dropped by a well known hitter.

Right, and who did Shavers ever one shot knock out with a good chin? How many belts did he fight for and win? And more importantly, WTF does that last question have to do with how hard he hit?

When it comes to overrated punchers Shavers is number one on that list.

Of course we'll still be talking about him twenty years from now because mooks like you won't ever let go of the myth.

interesting thread starter to be honest.

i have in my years of fandom seen julian jackson go from big punching chinny 2 weight title holder to one of the hardest hitters of all time. not that i don't agree. but it's amazing how quickly fighters can become revered. usyk seen as one of the P4P great is amazing but credentials do suggest that

the greatest puncher of all time never laced a glove is my phillosophy

Right, so you’re right and almost everyone else is wrong.

Referring to my first interaction with you in this thread, I am convinced you are new to the sport.

Insert last word below. I’m done with you. If there’s one thing that I can’t stand it’s wilful ignorance.

Nobody said Zhang had atg power until he beat Joyce. He probably does, but it seems reactionary

What the Zhang nuthuggers fail to acknowledge is that Joyce is a statue who literally stood in front of Zhang and allowed himself to get clobbered.

And then the dopey **** did it again.

No, but since he knocked Joyce's head off it's now more proven that it was before. That's the way these things work.

But he also showed big power in previous fights. He rocked Hrgovic to his boots and knocked him down (Dubois couldn't do that), he clobbered Forrest and flatlined a load of his lower class opponents with single shots. And he's now gone on to drop Parker with cuffing punches that didn't even have much on them and blast Wilder out with ease. I can't think of a puncher like him since maybe Sanders or Tua. Even Wlad didn't hit that hard (though he was obviously the far more effective at landing his shots over the course of a fight).

Wlad had a feat of smashing Peter's chin. Joyce has been stopped in the amateurs, but I'm not denying Zhangs power, I just think it's a bit too soon. Forrest took his power right on the chin.
