my favourite Butch story is the one he would tell about visiting tysons dressing room before the spinks fight to try and psyche him out - tyson started punching holes in the walls with Butch looking on in horror

" he's gonna be fighting my guy , my little guy " ???

RIP Butch - the bare chest and bow tie is an iconic image of one of boxings most colourful characters.

I always liked Butch Lewis. He did more than promote fighters. Butch promoted James Brown comeback tour and it was a success. Also, Butch promoted Hopkins early in his career and was there when Hopkins fought RJJ the first time. Very talented man and promoter.

Butch collaborated with Don King to promote many massive cards by the name of Dynamic Duo Inc... BLP and DKP...... He helped many good solid pro's The Spinks brothers.... Vaughn Bean.. Mo Blocker... Terrell and Lavell Finger... His father was also an original member of the Cloverlay Inc that thrust Joe Fraziers pro career towards the heavyweight championship.. He was an active confedent to Joe and Marvis and was out in Manilla aiding Joes camp along with George Benton and Mr Futch....... He is one of the sole reasons that the Tyson v Spinks fight became the richest prize purse for a heavyweight title fight... Butch later became an agent to many young aspiring athletes and often gave his own cash to help young men get a start in life in a sports or performing career.... A lovely guy actually....... He was a real cool feller... he always made me laugh............ an entertainer as well as a businessman...... RIP Butch Lewis .. You are going to be missed... x
