Bute: Against Froch and Gracev I fought with a injured left hand

It doesn't really matter why Bute's performance against Grachev was poor. What matters is that he has seen sense and that he has decided never to fight badly injured (again). Another poor performance like that and it's over for Bute.

I don't see why fans should pay a lot of money to see a Bute fight when he isn't well enough to make it at least very competitive/perform very well, whether that's against Grachev or against Pascal or Froch. The Grachev performance was poor and the fans got short-changed.

In hindsight, the smart move would have been to have the operation after the Froch fight. Clearly, the injury must have gotten much worse since then.

Bute is doing the right thing. Another poor performance costing the fans hundreds of dollars per ticket would have been a mugging.

Imo, he should not get into the ring again before he can use his hands properly and before hs regains his confidence sufficiently to perform at this level. If it takes more time and more serious sparring, so be it.

If Bute cannot regain his confidence or if he cannot use his hands properly, he should retire. When you charge hundreds of dollars, you need to perform very well.

 

I knew Bute wasn't right. On top of being jetlagged and also weight drained.

I like Bute and I agree that he looked less than his best vs Froch, you could tell in his ring walk something was wrong

But the fact of the matter is if your injured and you fight its your fault. Being hurt is a part of boxing and I cant speak from experience but in a 12 round fight especially a grueling one by round 6 or 7 both guys are hurting

so its either dont get in the ring hurt or if you do its you who has to deal with it

I wish Bute the best as I am a big fan of his and I think he can beat Pascal as long as he avoids the powerful right hand early, shame he will be on the shelf so long and not have a tune up to be sure the hand is ok

The emphasis you gave to some of Bute's marginal comments in the title made people think he was making an excuse for his poor performances.

 

This is why boxing is losing popularity and why so few fighters make big money in this business - cancelling a fight because of injury is damages the fighter financially and corrodes his popularity but fighting injured and getting destroyed does the same.

Unless you are hugely professional, know yourself very well, have great advisers and the luxury of picking your dates and opponents, like Mayweather, you're always going to have these kind of lose-lose choices to make in boxing.

 

You know what the really striking thing is, for me?

How grown men become attached to a certain professional entertainer, how they start to hero-worship and defend him, or criticise and hate him, how they get obsessed with every piece of news about him and every comment he makes.

The casual fans have a much healthier perspective. They watch the promos, and maybe a 24/7, and then they pay the money for the PPV or go to the fight. No drama, no time-wasting, no emotional meltdowns, no trolling or flaming, but in the end, it is mostly they who allow boxing to survive because it is they that buy the tickets/PPVs, not the very few who ***** all day on ESB and then watch the fights on illegal streams.

At this point as a supporter of Bute I only wish him to be healthy and make as much money as he can before he retires ! I don't care if he will win or lose the match with Pascal and the rematch with Froch , period !

Either someone's trolling superbly or Magic has a very valid point here.
There was a time when a certain person was far less level headed and much more aggressively defensive of Bute.
Anyone with less than a few months on the forum was summarily told "**** off noob" if they dared to comment about Bute in a negative way,whilst others would instantly jump in to help out.

I have to go for the trolling because there's just too much irony in that post.

The real irony, surely, is that someone with tens of thousands of posts and a hateful obsession with Bute and Bute fans is criticising others for ranting and raving and being obsessive... and for being loyal supporters of a certain fighter on a boxing website. :conf
