It`s curious how people judge: When Bute had 10 belt fights in a row and Super Six finished, Ward and followers said he doesn`t DESERVE to fight him (at least until fights Kessler or Froch). Then who did at that moment?Bute was unbeaten champion at the moment and declared is ready to go in Oakland for the fight.Ward`s partisans said he avoided Super Six.But the organizers recognized he wasn`t invited. Now some say he DOESN`T DESERVE to fight DeGale. Lets`s put some things down. 1.Yes,Bute was a protected fighter. But what fighter who sells is not? 2.Bute wanted a lot to fight to fight Kessler in 2011.The last came In Montreal to see Bute-Magee, rooted a lot for Magee and was quickly gone to airport after the fight. After one or two years Kessler fought Magee in Denmark.Kessler being free that spring, Canadians contacted him but was not reached an agreement. You coul obviously see Bute was ery upset. 3.Froch accepted to fight Bute only with ALL his(or his team) conditions:small ring, thin gloves and his hometown. According to his first trainer,in the fight in England "Bute paid the price of arrogance".Of course, it`s very clear.Kessler and especially Ward were avoiding Bute, the last in Mayweather`s style, waiting to broke his legs in other fights.Froch who was looser of Super Six was reluctant to go in Montreal either.Bute didn`t to go in England. And made a big mistake. And now this chance to his old belt is denied by some. The keeper of the belt DECIDES WHO DESERVES to fight him excepting the mandatories.Ward decided Bute didn`t deserve at the time, Degale, after winning the belt decided his now equal(in belt posession) Ward doesn`t deserve to fight him yet. Life repays accordingly when you expect lesser.
It's easier for the fighter with less accomplishment to claim they are being ducked. That's the nature of the beast. Most fan bases that get engaged in back and forth exchange of insults and discussions are usually escalations of the most extreme opinions from both sides. It keeps building and building until both sides look stupid. Unless you get the rare cases where one fan base outnumbers the other 10 to 1. Then usually it gets out of control and totally skewed. That's when I find myself rooting for fighters I would have otherwise rooted against. DeGale vs. Bute is a worthy fight for both of them and the division itself. Bute is a former titlist. Not sure what there is to complain about. Some folks will never learn that the best possible fights seldom ever happen.
Fun thing is that almost all the guys that say "[Boxer's name] doesn't deserve to fight me" chose a far less opponent next or even one of the victims of the guy that isn't "deserving". It's pure hypocrisy and everyone sees it but the fans use it do defend the obvious duck. Froch made Ward's problem go away, and the fight was dead at that point, but everyone knows that the way Froch fought Bute is a way Ward can't because he isn't a granite chinned mauler. Triangles in boxing often don't work because every boxer has his strengths and weaknesses and it seems like (pre Froch) Bute had a couple strengths that would definitely trouble Ward. That doesn't mean he would win of course, but it probably means the fight could be a lot closer as many now say it is.
Belt fights, while the best fought the best, so it means he did not face best but stayed in Canada to get hyped up. He was never top 3 in his division Kessler Ward Froch over him always!
Bute wouldn't have had a chance against Ward or Kessler at any point anyway. It makes no sense to say that Kessler avoided him when he went on to fight a much more dangerous opponent in Froch again who absolutely destroyed Bute. I think Bute played his career well and got maximum fame and money out of his talent. He was even a P4P fighter before the Froch fight.
ward missed out on a career high payday by doing this. pretty much a shameless duck, or unrivaled stupidity.
The way it all was and went with Bute is interesting and this thread is interesting. It did appear as if other boxers were reluctant to face Bute. Bute was a decent champ when you think 9 defences, beat other SMW champs in Berrio, Bika and Magee. After the S6 and before Bute lost to Froch, I struggled to see how on accomplishment, (at that time) people could make an arguement for Froch being rated higher as their resumes at that time were of a similar level with Froch having a couple of losses. Also at that time Froch hadnt beaten a SMW champ, which was something Bute had done. I would have favoured Bute to have beaten Ward (then), as I dont think Ward would have been able to walk through Bute like Froch and would have been concerned about Butes power. After the S6, Bute was the biggest fight for Ward and was an undefeated world champ with many defences. Since the loss, Bute hasnt seemed the same. A loss affects some fighters in a big way
If Kessler was so much better, why didn't he take the fight? If Ward was so much better, why didn't he take that easy money...
Andre Direll, Green were among the best? Direll has 0-2 at belt fights now and Bute 10-1. Bute beat Glen Johnson(semifinalist in Super Six) way more clear than Froch did a few monts earlier. That`s why the last was reluctant going in Canada. Bute was at a time No. 1 according The Ring and fightnews.com and No. 2 according Dan Rafael After the tournament was No. 3 after Ward and Froch.
You can`t say Bute would`n had all reasons to be accepted by Kessler.Froch was already beaten and known by Kessler and at that time Bute was undefeated and with a high ratio of KO-s.
