Just so we're clear: I'm not blaming Showtime. They wanted three Europeans and three Americans and that left Bute out in the cold. That's fine. Their tournament, their decision. But that doesn't change the fact that Bute wasn't invited or contacted. So all the crap about him not fighting the best out there needs to stop. It's not his fault he can't fight Ward or Froch right now.
Fair points all. I certainly wouldn't have advised Bute to step in and replace Taylor. Strarting at a disadvantage in the tournament wouldn't have made any sense.
On merit, of course Bute belonged. Didn't mean to be unclear on that. And I agree on the Taylor/Bute issue, but Taylor had a bigger following in the USA than did Bute. Had they known Jermain would be forced out after just one fight, I'm sure they'd approach it differently. Green is a waste of space.
I was comparing Bute against the non-Americans only. The American fighters were a given and not even in the Bute debate. Taylor *should* have been, but you can see Showtime's perspective on that issue. But among the Europeans, Bute did not belong over Kessler, Froch or Abraham, whose win over a prime Miranda was superior to Bute's accomplishments. Plus, Abraham is a murderous puncher and there's always fan appeal in that.
I need to clear all this up. Froch claimed on Eastsideboxing On the ropes show that Bute was invited to take part, but this is not true. Bute is contracted to HBO and therefore Showtime did not invite him to take part due to his contractual obligations. This is the simple truth. Now I like Bute, but no way I think he is the best Super Middleweight in the world. Indeed take him out of Montreal and put him in against a guy like Andre Ward and he would be schooled for 12 rounds. I have no doubt about this. Its very easy to look great fighting at home all the time against 2nd rate fighters. When he gets taken out of Montreal and fights a quality fighter it is then he will be judged in my eyes. Yes he should be in the Super Six. I would love to see him fight in Europe against any of the European fighters and really get tested. Sadly he is not in. While it takes some gloss of the tournament you can't say the Super six has been disappointing..
First of all, Froch lied ! I also think Ward beats Bute, but in a much closer fight than you claim. On the other hand, if you want to say that Bute should fight outta Montreal or Canada some times, I agree, you need to say the same of guys like Andre Ward then, who needs to fight outside of Oakland...never mind the US, since like you said it's easy to look good at home !! To make things very clear, Bute was never invited in the "Super 6", not because of any contractual obligations, but simply because it wasn't in the plans to invite him. Bute made a deal with HBO after the "Super 6" fighters were announced, not before. Also, Bute had a choice between fighting Carl Froch in September of last year or rematch Andrade. Bute was the one wanting to clear the Andrade fiasco before moving to other things. He wanted to fight Froch but felt he needed to shut critics first, therefore rematch Andrade. The Andrade rematch, so to a certain extent GBP, is what helped Bute get involved with HBO !
So Bute has close to zero chance's to win by ko or decision against Ward? Oh man you're not biased at all. This content is protected And super six it was disappointing until now: Abraham win over a shot Taylor/ a very close decision of Froch over a desperate Dirrell that was holding&kneeling /A nice win from Ward but a win that came with repeated headbutts/ A DQ win by Dirrell . Hopfully Froch vs Kessler will be an exciting fight.
it just shows you the mindset of american boxing fans if showtime believe they'll only be interested in the tournament if there was as many americans as europeans in the tournament. i would guarantee you if you had this tournament without any brits, we would still be interested in the tournament, you know why? because we're die hard boxing fans over here. makes me ****ing mad that everything has to go around american boxing especially when the country is declining in talent dramatically, and now we got to have ****ing allan green in the tournament. ****s sake.
The only upside of it is that Allan Green has been talking forever about nobody wanting to fight him (yeah, right...), so now he gets his chance to put up or shut up.
And i think he's gonna put someone to sleep, neither he or Bute were in the super 6 at first, this could have happened, and it probably would have been the best fight out of all them.
it is also possible that Showtime, when they planned the supersix, find that Bute was a little too skilful; After Bute-Andrade 1, Showtime offered to Bute to fight Zuniga . It was the choice of Showtime, like Miranda for HBO, easy after to make comparisons. We all know the result. Bute KO 4 Curiously after, Showtime were all not interested to produce Bute-Andrade 2,while Bute want absolutely give a revenge fight to put back him the Andrade's case. they propose to Interbox a unification with Froch in England. I remember at this period that the relations between the two were not easy and the director of Interbox, the Bute's team, Jean Bedard said: It seems that Showtime want our belt! Finally, Bute decided to go with Andrade, and I remembered, it was at the same time, the surprise in the Bute's team when the supersix was announced. They said that this was a very interesting idea and Bute would be please to participate. But it seems that at any moments, Showtime talk to the Bute's team. I think that Showtime have some problems with Bute because he was canadian and possibly they think he was more difficult to sale for their american audience. and after Bute-Andrade 1 and Bute -Zuniga, they consider that Andrade would not be able to get the belt, so they offer the unification with Froch, in England. At this moment, it is clear that Showtime were in the lasts moments for planning the Supersix and, as Froch a member of the tournament, the IBF belt was a nice addition. We eventually never know all the reasons why Bute is not in the tournament. I don't know if Showtime want an american champ for their audience. but if it is because Showtime finds that Bute has very good skills and he could be an obstacle, it seems with Bute's lasts fights that Showtime have made the good choice.
