Just a few months ago I would have been very disappointed with Brinkley as an opponent for Bute but considering the names of the possible opponents we've heard in the last 1-2 weeks. Brinkley doesn't sound so bad after all.
I heard he was going to take a tune-up/kill time fight in Romania, that is why I assume he was going to fight a local chef, not that different from his previous opponents. :deal
6 of Bute's last 7 opponents are better than Brinkley :deal But if that's who his mandatory is, then that's who his mandatory is.
Brinkley fought well against the one dimensional Stevens but he does not have enough to beat Bute, Bute is too quick for Brinkley on-top of all the other advantages he has.
You know, Brinkley is a good fighter. Nothing so wrong with him but he's a very watchable B movie and Bute might be a classic blockbuster in the making. It's not really fair.
I don't see what you mean. Before the super 6, Kessler fought Gusmyl Perdomo. If bute-Brinkley happens, it's a good stay busy fight, especially because Bute gets rid of his mandatory at the same time. He'll be available for two optionals.
Bute will eventually have to fight an elite fighter. This, once again,is not one of them. The IBF is a joke.
I really like watching Bute fight. So Brinkley is his mandatory, fine. Lucian has to sort of make due for another 18 months or so before a Super Six champ is crowned. Even then the tournament winner will most likely take a couple victory lap/showcase fights before going against Bute. So what else is he supposed to do in the interim? I though Hopkins was running his mouth about fighting Bute? Kelly Pavlik is moving up. Soooo, I guess people are going to ***** about his opposition for at least a couple more years. As far as I am concerned, Bute has looked fantastic in his last three fights, against quality fighters and should be considered as one of the hottest/must see tickets in boxing.
