Crap fight. Brinkley is a cabdriver. Bika should be mandatory challenger. The IBF have lost credibility over this. Bute should seriously consider dropping the belt. If Bute agrees to fight Brinkley, he loses credibility too.
Jesse is too brave for his own good and is going to receive a horrible, horrible beating. He's way out of his depth here.
I'm a big fan of Bute but I agree, Bika is a much better choice. I really don't want to see this mismatch of Bute vs Brinkley.
Hi Dec. I take it you think Bika would have walked through Brinkley? A lot of people on this forum were looking forward to that as being a very competitive fight, hence all the disappointment when it fell apart.
C'mon,. Brinkley even managed to look like **** against Bonsante and lost a decision vs a very very used Reid. Maybe this would have been a good matchup (vs Bika) but he's still no match for Bute.
Brinkley would have been a good tune-up fight for Bika who has been out of action for a long time. I'm disappointed for Bika but I don't think it would have been competitive at all. Bika hits hard and he is a brute - Brinkley would have been in a lot of pain. Bute vs. Brinkley is a JOKE!
I don't think he's a match for Bute at all, in fact earlier in this thread I questioned whether he could even survive half the scheduled distance. I just don't necessarily consider Bika much of a match for Bute, either. The Brinkley that fought his heart out against Stevens vs. a very inactive Bika? I consider that a competitive bout.
The only reason Brinkley might go 6 rounds v. Bute is if Bute carries him for 3 rounds. This is a terrible mismatch. Brinkley doesn't have anything to trouble Bute, not even if he gets lucky or catches Bute on a really bad night. It's a pointless fight. It is much worse than the Joppy fight because at least Joppy had experienced fighting some top fighters and he could still land some nice rights on Bute. The best the Brinkley can hope to do is act as a durable punching bag for a couple of rounds...
I agree. My underlining point was that Bika isn't much more credible a challenger, perhaps but for being more durable. Going strictly off recent activity/opposition, Brinkley has been on a better run than Bika since the latter won the Contender. So him becoming the mandatory, even if he's the lesser fighter, isn't completely nonsensical. Of course it would be better if the two could duke it out to earn the right to face Bute, but all we can do is take what the alphabet *******s give us. :conf
He's a much more credible challenger! But, of course, he'd still be a big underdog against Bute, who would likely stop him this time around. However, for a couple of rounds, Bika could make this very competitive and entertaining. Brinkley can't.
At least Bute is fighting 3 times a year, he usually only fights twice. Brinkley is a mandatory, its the political side of boxing that often gets in the way of big fights, so it has to happen. Easy win for his Romanian homecoming. As long as he fights someone good in the fall on HBO then its all good.
I'm sorry, but that won't wash. Bute has had his easy fight against Miranda, who wasn't even a proven Top 15 fighter. Bute needs to make every fight count from now on. He can no longer afford to fight random guys. He is widely (and rightly, in my view) viewed as a Top 15-20 p4p fighter, and he is also paid accordingly, so he has a responsibility to the sport and to the fans. As long as there are better fighters out there for Bute to fight, and Bika seems to be one of them, he should fight them.
He could always on up-and-comers like Marcus Johnson or Donovan George when they're ready, in three to four fights.
Lets get realistic here. First Bute already faced Bika and after the Miranda's fight Larouche said he dont want to fight Bika again. So I'm guessing they decide to go around that by going right now with Brinkley. The problem in the first place was that Brinkley-Bika was schedule in May and Lucian wants to fight in July in Romania. It wasnt possible to fight his mandatory (either one) because it was too soon. So Interbox tried to find somebody else to fight Bute in Romania, they tried Steiglizt it didnt word. Maybe they tried somebody else, we dont know. So now as somebody already said on this thread he is doing his fight in his country as planed and he is getting rid of his mandatory. For the comment about he should'nt fight Brinkley and fight better opposition and let go of the IBF title. Well I think it will be a mistake, even if we would like a better fight, Bute still has to keep his 0 and his belt and face the super 6 fighters in the future. It's hard for him to have good opposition, it's not his fault, let's have this fight waiting for the super 6 fighters. And who knows with HBO maybe a Froch not happy about hometown decision will be tempts by a big fight with Bute on HBO with big money outside of the super 6... So let's get realistic and dont be to harsh on Bute, he wants to fight the best out there, but the best are not available.
