they asked him that and his answer was that he doesn't want to look past Brinkley and that they will assess their options after he wins the fight. Don't forget that 2 of the super 6 will be out of the tournament after this fall.
he's certainly not a coward but he is carefully matched. also, he's part of no interesting series of fights, neither the super 6, nor the major light heavyweight battles in canada for the WBC title. but - pascal beat the HBO fighter, and won the title that the yanks in particular respect and recognise: the ring magazine title. this was bute's chance to prove he is an ELITE fighter, and to prove he's a worldwide force and potential piund for pound player, vs a domestic rival, in a fight that would be huge in canada. instead: bute v brinkley, and bute v mendy (a guy knocked out while on the floor vs bika in a farce of a fight).
Well as long as he fights the eliminated guy not named Green, then that would be great. I would hope that he doesn't avoid a guy like Dirrell, if he's eliminated, with an excuse that he's waiting for the winner.
This is from the press conference after Bute vs Zuniga back then Pavlik and Taylor didn't lost to Martinez / Froch , Abraham. Taylor was scheduled to fight Froch Listen to the end. Bute is no coward [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E46WUoav0lU[/ame]
wonderful. so it'll be bute v brinkley, bute v mendy, and then bute v allan green. what a tremendous run that will be!
Here's the interview (in French): http://www.ckac.com/audioplayer.php?mp3=77517 Bute explains why he doesn't want to fight Pascal now. He says he will definitely fight Pascal when both of them are bigger names in the US.Then, he talks about his plans.
This was the very reason why Bute wasn't invited to the Super Six. Showtime's Ken Hersham actually said so in an interview on Boxing News earlier this year. Hersham stated that prior to the Super Six Bute had shown zero interest in taking big and difficult fights as well as a reluctance to fight abroard.
And why didn't he told us what were those big and difficult fights ? If he was so well informed. Wanting Taylor Pavlik and Froch didn't seemed big enough ?
A fight between Bute-Pascal will never have any kind of real demand in the US. It's still a fight that should occur, for obvious reasons. But to delay it until they become bigger names in the US is weak reasoning.
