I look forward to Steve Bunce's thoughts, having intimated in a couple of articles that Carl was primarily motivated by money. http://www.independent.co.uk/sport/...y-for-ignoring-box-office-wisdom-7771287.html
I was very pleasantly suprised by FRoch's performance I like most thought he was gonna have to chase the fight and try and keepy it as close as possible for the later rounds but fair play, he went out and completely annihalited Bute. Bute got exposed in a sense tonight.
Well I completely overrated Bute. Hook line and sinker jumped on the hype train despite a few on here yesterday pointing out that Magee was landing pretty comfortably. The thing that seems so obvious now but that I didn't factor in before the fight was Bute's inability to throw combinations. In his previous fights he was able to fight at his pace and methodically land powerful single shots and that was enough. In hindsight he did look the sort that would throw to throw anything other than short lefts up close. Froch was also superb. Initially I rated his all round generalship but my respect for it has slowly eroded in previous years due to him flattering to deceive in that department. Last night though he showed the timing and class that he has in the locker and it was just simply a brilliant performance that I didn't think he had in him.
When you take a step back, it's a fight you couldn't really predict. Bute was untested & had a suspect chin. If he wasn't as good as people said he was, he's getting KOd. Simple If on the other hand he was as good as people said, you cant blame anyone for picking him to win (especially given Froch's last performance & make no mistake about it, his career was on the line) I tipped Froch to win on points via some home cooking. I got sucked in by the hype. Never again though.
Pretty **** article from Steve there. Then again, he's hardly going to say ''Froch shouldn't fight bus drivers'' because he'd be down the dole queue, as it's the Allegedly way.... and he'd like to see Froch vs Clev on BN at some point in the near future. It'll be interesting to see the direction in which he goes next, the Kessler return is an obvious fight but there's been problems with Sauerland and Froch before.... Stieglitz isn't really a world class operator. I wouldn't mind him going in with Pavlik actually.
If Bute doesn't enforce the rematch clause, and I don't think he will, that's the fight i'd most like to see with the exception of a Kessler rematch. There might well be a fight with the other Dirrell down the line, should he continue to win after he returns from injury.
I got this one totally wrong. I thought Froch would be stalking Bute, instead Froch moved back and sideways making Bute come onto him. Froch showed a lot more experience than Bute and dictated the fight. Carl has all the little fouls and tricks of an old pro although in saying that he got away with a lot of hitting on the break. Ultimately though it was the power of Froch's punches that undid Bute. The former champ just looked in trouble every time he was hit cleanly. Bute just isn't tough enough and his lack of proper fight experience clearly showed. Congrats to those who predicted the Froch KO win.
Yeah, the two fights I'd really like to see are Froch against Kessler and Pavlik. He has unfinished business with Kessler and how long has he had this feud with Pavlik for? It seems to have been going on for years. They have a common opponent in Taylor and maybe that's the reason they've been linked together quite often. I think it'd be a good fight, even though Pavlik is past his best. He probably needs to get a decent win under his belt before he becomes a viable challenger but I would like to see it one day.
