he doesn't assimilate punishment very well, and when he gets bumrushed and caught he freezes. He has a weak mandible and his confidence in his ability to take a shot is gone.

The big punchers and power guys are his kryptonite all they have to do is rush in land some hard stuff and Butte is done or becomes so timid you can rest and regroup after each ambush.

too many bruisers at 175 with Kovalev and Stevens and the days of the Bhops and Froch's will soon be over, its akin to talkies taking over the silent era in movies.

the big question is just how good Ward is and will he survive these punchers? Bute however, is done at the very top at 175

Bute is mentally ruined. He's haunted by the Froch fight. He's a nice boy; he'll always be a nice boy, but his days as a contender are gone.

Dawson would 119-109 Bute right now and would somehow manage to even punish him.

    Froch isn't a 175 pounder.

He was never at the top at 175, he was one of the top guys at 168. Kovalev and Stevenson would probably brutally knock him out. He'd struggle in a rematch with Pascal and he'd probably struggle to get back down to 168 without being weight drained. Froch may well have ended his career as a top level fighter.

Pascal doesn't have a lot to brag about either.Very poor performance from the loud mouthed cretin. He is far from "elite" himself.
Best cash in on those cheques in Quebec cause he won't be getting any big paydays anywhere else.

If you watch footage of him before and after the Froch fight you can see he has become too cautious and lacks confidence. Not many fighters come back after a one-sided beating.

    Highly skilled, intelligent fighter

Id have given him a great chance vs Ward - and at the time that would have been one hell of a match up

I still think he can overcome his mental block from the Froch fight, if managed properly.

What needs to be done is put him in with light touches, the kind he can dominate, and better yet, KTFO, so he can start believing in his power again. He needs to be built up gradually. The Grachev fight didn't do anything for his confidence level.

He's not shot physically, he's not shot skills wise, it's all mental, so I feel that after a few dominating performances his confidence can be brought back gradually.

Mental weakness is an unfortunate thing, but the resulting effects of it are not necessarily permanent. Not all trauma cases are emotional wrecks for life. I still have confidence in him if managed correctly.

Bute has no business fighting at LHW, bad career move... His whiskers are definitely below average. Still there are far worse mandibles in boxing than his.
