He is just holding a press conference and stated that he will not retire and that he is aware that something is wrong with him; he is accusing a mental block in his fight with Pascal and says that is trying to fix this some way or the other. NO rematch will take place immediately he says his fans need to see a real change before this can even be discussed.
At least he seems to not be oblivious to reality. In an ideal pro-Bute world, in my opinion, he should aim to fight three complete tomato cans, I'm talking guys with losing records, for his next few fights through the end of the year before trying to make a go of it in 2015.
Yeah, it's weird.... In both the Grachev and Pascal fights, Bute showed flashes of brilliance in spots.......really driving home the L UC and straight L hand. But......in the end, they were both very defensive fights. Not his style at all. CPer yes....backfoot yes...but backpedaling, ala Floyd.....no frigging way. In both fights, in the 12 rd, he bossed them two. Pascal was able to counter and back him up a few times, but Grachev was not able to let down his guard for a second. It's like the coast was clear, and he went for broke. Not saying he should be a go forward brawler for 12 rds, but he's gotta let his hand go again if he's gonna be something of a true contender again. I don't agree about stepping back to cans......maybe journeyman and club fighters though.....guys who can only beat cans themselves. Even with the mental block, he's got the kindof skills/power to blow them out early and regain confidence while not completely throwing his resume down the toilet.:think
Bute needs to change the coach or to bring someone new in his camp with new ideas. Bute's mental block is also related with the fact that when he's pushed into a corner he doesn't have options. His coach haven't teach him much. His trainer made him a limited fighter because he didn't teach him new things, to be able have more options. It's a combinations of things... that mental block of his and I think it's almost impossible to overcome it completely. Maybe he can do it a tinny bit, and look decent against a past prime former champ like Pascal, ffs.
he talked about this and they are opened to ideas like having a sport psychologist and even a new trainer to collaborate within the existing team (I recall Freddie Roach name thrown as an example if I'm not mistaking) to maybe add some flavor to the training atmosphere. bottom line was that nothing is decided and they are evaluating all options; I hope he is able to bounce back somehow. We don't really have that many world title contenders here in Romania hehe, in fact none except him in the last years.
Will never be the same. Should retire. The analogy I like to make with Bute relates to what Richard Zednik went through in hockey... he used to be aggressive and cut towards the net mid-ice where he scored goals from the slot. Then that one time he got smoked trying to do it. Never tried it again. Bute actually tried to counterpunch Froch a few times in the first round of their fight... then he got smoked. Will never try aggressive counterpunching again. He's done.
Yes,Bute -there is something wrong.Your age and elite competition has caught up to you.You are done like dinner and ought to retire back to Romania and to the caravan park you came from. You can now truly be the King of the Pikeys.
