I agree here I always said Kessler was a bigger better version of Pavlik

And I think Bute is similar to Calzaghe similar body types and stances and punching well Bute doesnt slap but he has those quick punchs like Calzaghe they just look similar

but Bute definitley hits harder and that southpaw left to the liver is one of the most dangeorus punches in boxing

i mean chavez's left hook to the body was devestating but that wasnt even his dominant hand

Bute can drive his left hand to the body and he typically hurts his foes and makes them forget about the head

like Andrade 2 and his fight b4 Mendy he dropped them to the body then they stopped protecting their head and got KO'd from a head shot

also with the Calzaghe Kessler comparison didnt Zaghe hurt Kessler downstairs and that changed the fight, Bute can do the same thing

I actually see this closer to Martinez vs Pavlik a fast unorthodox guy boxes well Pavlik has his moments but gets beat up near the end to a decisive loss

If Pavlik stays sober and injury free, the entire fight could end up looking more like the middle rounds of Pavlik/Martinez than it does Calzaghe/Kessler.

Bute is not as quick as Martinez, but he's quick enough to present Kelly with a serious hand speed problem. Combine that with Lucian's much vaunted punching power, and it puts Kelly in an over all bad situation. However, I disagree with IB's comments on the left hook. In my opinion Pavlik's 3-2 is the key to a win. Of course he'd have to come in with that 3-2 sharper than ever, and not make any serious mistakes.

Note that I opened the post with the word "if." That word only has two letters, but it's still the biggest word in boxing.

    Thanks man. :yep

Yea I hate when I look in the depths of the forum to see a good post get completely ignored due to the over hype of something else, so that's why I'm always lurking.

And As the recent esb has been lacking with quality boxing talk, I try to stick with those good posts lost from time to time, from posters that have been around for at least a few years.

You mean in his one fight back after a year lay off and all he's been through in which he faced a largely unknown but undefeated opponent who tried to play spoiler the entire night? Great sample there, IB.

Most Bute fans are also Pavlik fans, and most Pavlik fans are also Bute fans. The hardcore elements of the two groups get along rather well. In the past we enthusiastically discussed how much fun we would have when the time came for debate. Now that the time draws nigh, I'm pretty disappointed. There really isn't a lot to debate. Debating over whether Pavlik will lose by a 9-3 type decision, or a late TKO just isn't that much fun.

I think Kelly has been the recipient of some very unfair and inaccurate criticism over the Lopez fight. The styles and tactics of the two fighters conspired to stink the joint out, but Pavlik won the fight very clearly. I scored it 98-92 right in line with two judges and all of press row. KP did not look great, but he won, and like the old saying says: "Win this time. Look good next time."

My point here is that under the right circumstances I believe KP has at least one more big win left in him. However, I do not believe Lucian Bute presents "the right circumstances." Furthermore, Kelly is tough and very tenacious. His own tenacity and durability may create a situation where he ends up leaving an awful lot of himself behind.

He's not losing money. It's called an investment. you know, that thing where you're willing to lose some money now so that you can make truckloads of cash later by fighting Andre Ward.

You can see it this way but Bute will have made a truckload of money fighting in montréal too!
