True just because he went the distance doesn't mean anything. All it really says is he lacks the power Froch had. DeGale has decent pop in his punches but he isn't a big hitter. He compensates for his lack of real power in other areas.
He got robbed of a fair score it proved he would never have got the verdict He could have won, drawn or lost a razor thin decision but those scorecards are the robbery
im a brit and i thought bute nicked it. close fight tho and for me degale was too much backward movement
A draw would have been entirely acceptable, you should watch it again Beastside, he didn't do nearly as bad as you think he did.
It was a 116-112 kind of fight, DeGale landed the much cleaner, better shot. The uppercut worked well, as did the straight right hand, Bute was blocking DeGale's looping shots well, but overall the better work was from DeGale, and really I was quite impressed with his performance on the road. Only thing I dislike is his tendency to fall back on to the ropes and look for counters, I'd rather seem him spin-off and make Bute look silly as he did on one occasion well. Either way, it wasn't a robbery and in no way could anyone argue a Bute win, he simply didn't land the effective punches.
Can't see how anyone can score that for Bute, he gave a good account of himself but Degale clearly won that fight
Degale is brave going on the road with the style he has. He has a round winning style based on how awkward he is and there were many times in this fight where Bute was backing him up but Degale was countering and defending well. I actually see Degale spending the rest of his career winning close decisions as he does take his foot off the pedal mid rounds a bit. Thought his defensive work and movement was great tonight and made Bute seem like a plodder. Both have great handspeed though, made for a terrific fight. Jim Watt cannot score fights not staged in Britain. Bute is still a quality operator but you could tell a certain spark is missing. Probably due to his inactivity rather than confidence.
I thought it was closer than the judges had it but DeGale won by two or three rounds. Bute had home advantage but couldn't get it done, don't start shouting "robbery" because it wasn't.
