Kessler, Dirrell, Johnson, Pavlik, Martinez, Hopkins, even Dawson. They are all possible and Bute will chose the best one available.

My guess, for the 2 next bouts (after Magee): Kessler and Dirrell. At worse, Johnson and Kessler or Dirrell. That's worht what Showtime is paying for Bute.

And btw, Brinkley was not on HBO.

i propose while the s6 is still going on, Bute faces competition that approaches the level of the fighters in the super six. Maybe Dirrell, Kessler, Taylor etc. Otherwise it promotes the on going disease of cherry picking and ducking to further one's reputation that's already far too prevalent in this sport. Unless someone legitimately earns a shot at the champion, I'd be content with the champion taking small well deserved break at the end of this tournament.

If Bute still hasn't fought anyone by then, then the champion should follow suit and fight his own share of taxi drivers and pizza boys.

I'd like to seem him fight Dirrell (assuming he's healthy).

No Brinkley fight was not on HBO but on ESPN. Showtime screens Magee because Bute has few options right now.
    Stieglitz said no
    Sartison said no
Kessler said he is not ready to fight in march, no good news about his injury came from his camp lately.
Bika was already beaten by Bute and recently lost to Ward, not exacly good to fight a fighter who just lost his last fight(Same goes for Green who was embaresed by Ward/Johnson)
    Pavlik was in rehab.
Magee undefeated in his last 10 fights, was the best he could get.

Maybe because only ignorant posters like you think he is a hypejob? Maybe because the other boxers and the trainers show him a big load of respect? Maybe because Ward himself said the winner had to fight him to be recognized the king of the division?

You ignoring the reasons doesn't mean there are no reason...

Bute is waiting for the damn tournament to end. That's not cherrypicking.

Bingo. I recall predicting a [Kessler or Dirrell] vs Bute fight for summer 2011. Both have got to take a tune-up fight in Apr/May and we could see this in September this year. Unfortunately I also called the Bute-S6 winner fight to happen in 2011, and it most likely won't. March 2012 @ MSG?

As said by other posters, that wasn't on HBO - they almost gave him the finger, actually.

This will stop now because Magee is there to reintroduce Bute to Showtime viewers. Who's Hershman been hyping at pressers lately? Bute. How many millions a fight? Two. The idea of fighting Magee suddenly becomes ridiculous... then there's the contract extension, to a 4th fight I think. So yeah, more money. At this point, are you comfortable in arguing that Hershman would be proud to announce a Bute-Mendy fight, let alone a Bute-Stevens fight? That's a shitload of crow Hershman's gotta eat right there. Trying to find the best for his Super 6 tournament, leaving the rest to a guy who he hands $2M/fight. Nonsense.

The next two, more realistically 2 out of 3 fights after he beats Magee, will be extremely high profile. Top 5 dudes for sure. :bbb

this is actually terrible news, because we all know how this business works. That means for this entire year, his team will handpick his opponents to avoid any potential losses before the megafight in 2012. As for Kessler, I think his career is over. Dirrell has been blackballed. One of the main reasons Showtime signed Bute was so that a Dirrell-Bute fight wouldn't happen on HBO. However, who knows if HBO would have gave Dirrell another chance as he left a bad taste in their mouth from his first appearance. Dirrell is finished. HBO & Showtime want no part of this guy

If Kessler returns, he will supposedly get first crack at the S6 winner due to his champion emeritus status, if that is the case perhaps as has been suggested Bute should take on the losing finalist or at least a losing semi finalist and then if he wins fight the winner of the Kessler v S6 winner match up.
