I thought Calzaghe vacated all but the WBO title. But that doesn't matter, the Roy fight is either his last or he'll fight Pavlik at LHW. That's why Kelly agreed to fight Hopkins at 170. He's getting ready for THE superfight. IMO a unification is possible.

I think we need to be careful when comparing Bute with Kessler by looking at their Andrade fights for two crucial reasons:

    1. Styles make fights and Kessler's style is great against Andrade whereas Andrade's style is great against Bute's, so Bute will always look worse.

    2. Andrade will have improved considerably from the Kessler fight by the time he faces Bute, so Bute will look worse even if styles are taken out of the question.

    1. Why is Bute's style good for Andrade? :think

    2. The beating Kessler gave to Andrade is similar that Lacy took. Andrade was down in his very next fight. It's possible the Librado is not the same as he was before the beating he took.

I know but I read in several articles that he holds the WBO and the WBO only. The WBA website is sh*t unfortunately because their last ranking is from July.

Yes, but I can hardly believe that the huge beating he took doesn't have it's effects... Lacy wasn't the same after Calzaghe, Tito wasn't the same after Hopkins, some fighters just couldn't do it after their loss to Cotto...

Andrade already proved he is passed the Kessler fight by KOing Mack and Stieglitz and clearly has improved,he is not getting hit flush anymore,he rolles with the punches a lot,you can see this especially in the Stieglitz fight.Andrade is better since Kessler now

    1. Because Bute has problems with pressure fighter who keep coming forward and take a punch or two willingly in order to deliver one themselves. (see the rounds Bika, Berrio and Joppy did well in). This is precisely what Andrade does so well.

    2. I disagree. This is a common misconception in my view. When was Andrade KD'd and almost stopped by Kessler? When did Calzaghe look like he had to give his all to survive late on against Lacy? Andrade was a punching bag, but he gave Kessler by far his hardest fight, physically. By the end, Kessler was spent!

Watch Andrade against Kessler and then watch him in his last two fights to see how much he's improved. He is as tough as ever, but much improved technically, tactically and defensively. That much is obvious.

Well, nice argument. I agree, Andrade looked good in his last two, but he was still getting hit with hard shots and was down in the very next round after the Kessler beating. That was a savage beating despite the great chin and heart Andrade showed and despite he was still throwing in the 12th. A beating is a beating no matter how big your fighting spirit is. If not psychical, then the physical beating has it's effects.

I thought Bute handeled the pressure pretty well... but hey, we'll see. It's a great fight, he should focus on the great Librado.

As far as can be made out, Bute is aware that this will be by far his toughest fight to date; he is training hard and will not leave anything to chance, I think. He will not let Andrade take his belt, though; that is certain. He will do whatever is in his power to beat him, even go through the dark valleys; Bute should not be underrated, IMO. Andrade will have to be better than ever and give it more than ever to beat Bute, I think; even so and even with the style advantage, I don't think it will be enough. Bute is better, IMO.

I agree 100%,a win 7-5 in rounds would be as good as a 12 round schooling:good

Yes, Andrade got a beating much like Lacy got vs. Calzaghe. In fact Andrade was hit by more hard punches than Lacy was.

However, I still think Andrade came out of his fight better than Lacy. The reason is expectations.

It was more or less expected that Kessler would beat and probably dominate Andrade - and when he did just that but Andrade showed extreme heart and cyborg-chin he got a lot of praise. In fact many believe that few if any can carry out the game plan Kessler did and that Andrade (desite the loss) showed that he is a force to reckon with.

Many on the other hand expected Lacy to win, so the loss and the manner was a disapointment - and not least to Lacy.

So from a psychological point of view andrade didn't loose a lot from the fight with Kessler. Rather he earned a lot from the fight I would say. He earned a lot of credibility and a lot of fans.
