i think its the best for him...mentally he is not there anymore i think bute is now mentally unstable to fight, similar to pavlik or dawson, but for different reasons obviously...at his age its too late to start over from zero...and that i think is the only way for him to build confidence...but at 33, he should just retire...his team cant prepare him for any big fight that he wont choke...its almost like performance anxiety issues..all good in practice but when its time to perform he cant... though i know many will and are saying that bute never was anything special...even you must admit, that watching old bute(pre champ and early champ) bute would atleast throw punches...bute vs bika prime example, watch bute start swinging more after the accidental head butt in round 1... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rcgy0rbR55g now compare that performance to post-froch bute and you see he has lost it:deal
I agree he should. If he stays at 175 Kovalev, Stevenson and Hopkins beat him at 168 Froch Ward Groves and Kessler beat him.
I tend to agree but He doesn't necessarily have too retire. But he'll never beat the top guys at Super Middle or light heavy. But if he has family to feed and can still earn decent paydays beating lower level comp.
Boxing is a good way to stay in shape. If he enjoys it and is satisfied beating up contenders in Canada then he could make a very good living.
Physically, he's a shot fighter. He can't pull the trigger like he used to, his reflexes are slower, and his resistance has deteriorated dramatically. The last one is the most concerning to me, especially if Stevenson or Kovalev take him on to capitalize on his name. There's a high likelihood he'll get genuinely hurt against either of those guys. His brain's telling him to hang 'em up- I hope he listens. If he keeps fighting, it should only be against lower level competition.
I've always said Bute was a one trick pony. He has no adaptability in his style or gameplan. He should retire, he's too old and unable to make the changes needed to survive in the sport anymore. He's only going to get hurt going forward.
He is a shot fighter after losing one fight? Now he loses again at a higher weight and gave it hell in the 12th round. No disrespect, but the fans today are much more different then the fans of yesteryear. Back in the day fighters can lose ten or more fights and still be champions and still give out great fights. Seems to me too many people are into the that losing the "0" like Mayweather and some others. I understand if you get sparked and there might be a chance you will not be the same fighter ever again. Before anyone attacks me here, come on now. Bute was talked about a being the very best at 168 and so on and so on. Example: Hopkins. He can lose and shakes it off and off to the next big fight. How many times Gatti was washed up per fans and he came back firing and giving us great fights. Bute can come back and become a champion again.
I beg to differ. Styles make fights. Did Stevenson not get stopped by a B fighter. Kovalev could fall into the same dire situation as say Kirkland. We knew he was not the goods and the glass jokes will arrive. GGG another one. Let them prove themselves with legit comp. People see these KO"s and all of a sudden their the next best thing since bread.
Bute did not fight until the last two rounds..................if he can't do any better than that he should retire. I would suggest one or two more fights as a test, then retire....................
