Magee had fought Reid and Tsypko, but he lost to both. Both of whom lost to the Lacy that is Taylor's 'only 168 win' as you say. And Tsypko lost to the post- shoulder op Lacy and Reid was absolutely awful against Magee and still won. So, yeah, a convincing decision against Lacy is better than anything Magee had done, by quite a stretch.

Taylor is by far a better boxer but he's damaged goods now.
I don't think he would be a better opponent.

Anyway, has he announced his comeback?

i don't hate you silly person. you're from montreal, you have a bute avi i get it you love him.

i mentioned more than just dirrell, kessler, pavlik. i would have preferred bute to approach better names than magee.

look at my posts from before this fight was announced, i was saying bute is the best at 168, and he would lose that position if he didn't step up in consistency.

maybe if you would have checked my post history you would know i wasn't a hater.

maybe you should call yourself lazzie

I do like lazzie. That sounds cool. Here's a letter received by Jean Bédard, Bute's promoter, about all Bute's potential opponents.

It's in french, unfortunately but I assure you that all the possible names have been checked. Noone could fight around March. Maybe someone has already posted it in english?

why doesn't he sit out the march date and fight later then? stay busy fights are ok but he just had a fight with brinkley, this will be two non worthy title challengers in a row now.

That's 2 busy fights in a row, I agree with you, even if Brinkley was a mandatory. I prefer Bute to fight rather to eat his mama food in Romania.

I'm sick of waiting for the big fight. I think the mistakes were made by his promoter a long while ago, when he chose to stay on HBO instead of replacing Taylor in the super 6. At the time, the tourney was supposed to end earlier though, and no one could expect that both Kessler and Dirrell would be injured. It seems that every scenario they imagined turned out to fail.

At least, this is supposed to be Bute's last bad fight. If both Kessler and Dirrell are still injured, he can wait to face one of the semi-final losers (probably Johnson, because Abraham may want to go back to MW if he loses to Ward). Both Johnson and Bute have said they would fight each other even if they are friends. That's not a so big fight but it's better than Magee.

Tell us what you think about the three fights contract with Showtime, leading to the super 6 winner. :patsch

    magee was robbed against tsypko

it wasnt an upset when he beat larrson :lol:

and he wasn't "soundly beaten" by froch, he won the first half of the fight, then froch came back and knocked him out with an uppercut in the eleventh

he pushed rob reid close on the cards even after being floored 4 times. reid was robbed against ottke and arguably beat calzaghe

and im sure hes glad that he became a pro boxer and put his whole life into the sport he loves, just to be called a bum by so called "boxing fans" who have probably never seen him fight when he gets his big chance.

he looked excellent at the start of his career, he may not have lived up to his potential, but he deserves this chance.

Laffie, if we don't see Kessler & Dirrell back to back vs Bute, I have the strange feeling that Bute will be fed another low top 15 SMW before he meets with the S6 winner. Around October/November next year anyway (Kessler/Dirrell in May/June/July, Bute-S6 winner Spring 2012). Showtime contract to be extended for another 2-3 fights after his (win?) vs Kessler/Dirrell.

If Bute & Johnson ever fight each other, I wanna see Ward-Dirrell.

We weren't talking about an opponent for Bute now, discussion was whether Taylor was a better win for Froch when he fought him than Magee when he fought him.

Was Taylor a more accomplished fighter than Magee at the time? Definitely.

Was Taylor as dangerous at SMW than he was at MW? Nope.

Was Taylor the same after his two fights vs Pavlik? I don't think so.

Was Lacy a good win for him even after Lacy had been destroyed by JC and been given hell from Tsypko? Yeah, but certainly not a great win. Magee actually had a very close fight with Tsypko too.

Was Magee, who had lost to both Reid & Tsypko, a better win at SMW than Taylor, who had lost twice to Pavlik at MW but beaten a shot Lacy at SMW? It's debatable. I don't condemn your opinion either. Neither Magee or Taylor was a 'great' win @ SMW for Froch. I like to think the Magee KO was a better win than the Taylor TKO where Froch had actually gone down earlier in the fight... KO'ing a young pressure fighter is better than getting KD by a MW boxer and winning by TKO at the last min to me, but again that's just me.

This fight is disgrace. Bute and Interbox should be ashamed of themselves.
