I don't recall a headbutt attempt. I think i do recall him using an elbow/forearm but again, that had to do with his frustrations with not being able to do work the inside because either 1) Bute kept holding or 2) the ref kept letting Bute hold anytime Andrade got close. But if you are suggesting that Andrade is some dirty fighter, you are dead wrong. Andrade is one of the classiest guys in the sport.
Being classy(and yes he is a great guy) has nothing to do with what they do in the ring. Andrade is a dirty fighter yes.
Andrade is NOT a dirty fighter. You can't take one instance in the heat of the moment and classify him as dirty.
And yet you called Bute a ***** for holding(which is actually part of the game and many greats have made a career out of it).
^^ i don't think the ref matters at all. Bute by wide decision not making the same mistakes as the first fight. TOTALLY different levels of skill. Heart, will and toughness Andrade has. But not the skill
Oh please. Watch the fight again. See Bute clinch Andrade everytime he gets close. See how the ref allows this clinching to occur and never warns Bute about it. Bute got away with a lot of stuff that most referees wouldn't allow. If the ref had let Andrade work on the inside and prohibited Bute from excessive holding, Andrade would've gotten a KO sooner. I have no doubt about this. Andrade's game is about stalking you down and working on the inside. For most of the fight, he simply was not able to get off.
i agree with the amount of holding, it was at times excessive but we point to corruption way too easily. shitty referring? probably. but I honestly don't think it would have changed things. might have made the fight closer to score but bute still would have walked away with the win. how did you score the fight? I didn't have it close enough it would have made that much of a difference. Then again, who knows...the rematch will clear it up
You don't think that ref was corrupt or had serious bias? Did you even SEE the fight and round 12? "Get in that corner, get in that corner.....(5 second pause)....err, get in that corner!!!" I thought Bute clearly dominated the scorecards but hated that ref and think the fight could've been a lot different had a competent ref called the fight.
It's true that the ref let Bute hold throughout the fight but to be fair. He didn't call anything for the most part. Andrade got away with a lot of dirty tactics. He hit Bute on the break, behind the head. He used his forearms (push Bute by putting his forearms in Bute's face or in his throat), he also used his head, Andrade also wrestled Bute on a few occasions and the ref said nothing (same goes for Bute when he picked up Andrade's leg). In other words. The ref did a poor job all around.
