Here's another article: http://www.24hmontreal.canoe.ca/24hmontreal/sports/archives/2010/06/20100624-185619.html The fight will either be on october 15 (it's a friday so no HBO) or in November. Which doesn't make sense unless it's on the undercard of some other HBO show in the USA. There is absolutely no point in waiting even longer to fight Brinkley.
Why is everybody bashing Bute the super 6 stole all his possible great wins for now so he has to just feast on mandatories and beat the best ranked guys around him til the dust settles
Seems like he is always in stay busy fights. He has the size, skill and power to fight at 175. While he is waiting for Ward, he should go up and fight BHop or even the Cloud/Johnson winner sometime in the fall. Who gives a **** about mandatory anyway. Strip the belt from him, who really cares. Everyone knows he and Ward are the top guys in the division. :deal
Brinkley has earned the title shot.He has worked to get in that position bum or no bum it's not fair to refuse Brinkley his title shot just because the champion or his team or his fans thinks he is to good for him. Bute already have beaten Bika #4 ; Andrade #5 ; Miranda #10 . Dirrell #3 ,Froch #9 and Abraham #7 are in the s6.#1 is NOT RATED. So you choose the mandatory challenger insted of IBF between #2 Brinkley #6 Curtis Stevens #8 Les Sherington .
I just don't understand why they have to wait another 5 months to make this fight. If they can't make it in Montreal in August because of the Pascal-Dawson fight. Then they should make it somewhere else. In Quebec City or in the USA. Get this **** out of the way so Bute can fight a decent opponent before the 2010 is over.
Bute I think would beat BHop in Calzaghe fashion but just clearer anyway beating old Hopkins who looked bad vs jones would Bute really get any credit hed get less credit then Calzaghe and he gets none
I think it's important to remember that Brinkley earned his shot. He posted 8 straight wins, and then won a title eliminator that most people expected him to lose. He's also a step up from Miranda and Zuniga. That probably wasn't true a few years ago, but right now I think he'd beat both. He's little more than a famous club fighter, but he earned the right to fight, and to deny him his opportunity would be preposterous.
To be honest Bute-Hopkins would probably be less entertaining to watch than Bute-Brinkley will be. Aside from Bika, who Bute already beat easily, all the other more talented SMW's not in the super six have less recongnition than Brinkley (Mendy, Balzsay, Smith). Sartison & Steiglitz -both busy and refuse to leave Germany Inkin - seems to have retired Braehmer - moved up to LHW Tyspko - injured, maybe career over Taylor - out til tournament's over Lacy - nothing left Martinez - too small Dawson/Pascal - busy, probably for rest of year Cloud/Johnson - Don't fight til August Pavlik - on hiatus til Novemeber, then probably a tune up fight Wright - too small/too old? Who worth fighting is left? Brinkley is probably the best choice at this point.
We're only discussing this from Bute's perspective. If you ask Brinkley he would want at least a year to prepare for this fight. But Hell yes, 5 months is too much!
Bute-Brinkley is a mismatch so I'm not crazy about this fight. I know its a mandatory but this will make his 2010 almost a wasted year. He ko'ed Miranda, but Miranda loses everytime he steps up and now Brinkley. The big problem with Bute is that he is only fighting 2 times a year lately and he seems to stick a Brinklye, Zuniga, and Joppy in as one of those. If you are a world class fighter and you are going to face guys like an ancient Joppy and Brinkley every year then you have to fight more than twice a year.
Here are some news. According to RDS.ca who spoke with Interbox's PR guy. Nothing is set yet. "Cependant, le porte-parole du groupe InterBox, David Messier, a tenu à préciser à RDS que c'est seulement lundi que l'IBF déterminera officiellement l'aspirant numéro un au titre du boxeur roumain d'origine. Il est fort possible que ce soit Brinkley, mais rien n'est encore officiel. Une fois le nom de l'aspirant connu, InterBox devra ensuite négocier avec le clan de ce boxeur afin de déterminer la date et le lieu de l'affrontement."
