Bute vs Mendy

On the paper Mendy will be by far the most naturally talented opponent on Bute's record. He was silver medalist at the goodwill games, beaten for 1 point by the 2 times olympic champ A.Hernandez, he collected bronze twice at the euro CS and once at the world CS.
He has serous skills and he should have been even more succesful as a pro because of his power. In the young ranks he was a KO artist, at age 16 he destroyed Mormeck who was 18.
I still don't understand how he became a clubfighter as a pro. This chance comes late and it's not a gift. Bute is not a normal titleholder, he could become THE world SMW champ.
Mendy was caught cold by Bika and he was mocked by Bute's team, Canadian boxing sites and forums etc.. I rarely read such a disrespectful attitude about a guy who built his career without a promoter, who fought guys like Kanfouah or Hanshaw without $$$ to prepare etc. Mendy was told he is considered like a clown... Seems he prepared as well as possible, he is usually too cool but Bute's attitude motivated him to show he is not so bad.

 

Why was the weigh-in this early BTW? It must have been some 36 hours before the fight?

Andrade twice, (Andrade was a top 3 SMW at the time)

Zuniga, better than Cloud and Cloud beating Zuniga has put him above Dawson (by The Ring)

Berrio - Holds a win over Steiglitz
Magee was European champ and world rated fighter who hasnt lost in 10 fights

Ward has beaten
Kessler - A very good win better than any name on Bute resume but remember that Kessler was an unwell fighter
Miranda
Green - who lost to Miranda and was KOd by G Johnson in his 40s in his very next fight
Bika who hadnt fought many rounds in a while
Abraham on a winning run of 1 injury victory and 2 very decisive Super 6 losses.

Abraham, Miranda, Green and Bika arent as accomplished SMWs as Magee for example.
Overall Bute has a better SMW resume than Ward, though if Ward can beat Froch it would bump Ward up.

Who at SMW is Bute meant to fight at this time?
Mendy is undefeated and although he was KOd illegally by Bika, we dont know how that fight would have gone. Look at Dirrell / Abraham, that finished in a similar way

Do you consider Abraham - Dirrell a BS DQ? They look very similar. So as said you dont know. Some fighters take many big shots but an off guard illegal one does more damage sometimes (Im not saying Mendy can or cant take a shot), look at Michalczewski - Rocchigiani one for example

 

Thanks, I am a huge Bute fan but he still has a lot to prove. I think he may beat Andre Ward if he will fight him. His knockouts over Libardo Andrade and Edison Miranda proof how good he really is. But he needs to fight, Carl Froch, Andre Ward, Mikkel Kessler, Andre Dirrell, Glen Johnson or Kelly Pavlik to say just how good.

but i was more along the lines of saying while he hit him and he was somewhat down....or almost down....the ref wasnt there to stop it...and if i remember correctly he was told to DQ him....because he didnt see it or see it as a foul

 

its just no fun for me to watch a guy that everyone has ranked #1 , fight guys that have no chance....mgee was bald and pathetic, brinkley is a glorified elite club fighter...mendy just got knocked out in a round.... i like bute...im just not gonna fire up the grill and have people over to watch a fight where hes gonna dominate....i like to know that maybe theres a chance that this will turn into a fight.....a world title fight, i excpect more than what he has went up against latley
