Latest news on www.rds.ca (sorry it's in french) : Jean Bédard from Interbox confirmed that they are talking with Bob Arum concerning a fight with Pavlik that would take place the week-end after the super 6 final (October 29). He said that Pavlik wants to have another tune-up fight before that, probably in august. Bédard also told that it is more than likely that the fight would be in neutral groud, somewhere like Atlantic city, because : nobody wants to come to Montreal, it takes a lot of courage. He said they would agree to fight in Atlantic city.
to add to your translation from the mouth of Jean Bédard: « Nous avons soumis une offre sérieuse à Kessler à la demande de Showtime », précise M. Bédard. « Lucian était même prêt à sacrifier une partie de sa bourse pour que le combat ait lieu! Nous n’avons toutefois jamais eu de nouvelles… » « Il faut dire que nous avions eu la puce à l’oreille lorsque Kessler a décidé d’affronter Mehdi Bouadla à son retour, plutôt que Renan St-Juste. » Translation: "We have offered a serious offer to Kessler after Showtime ask us to do so. Lucian even agree to a cut to his own purse to do so. But we never had an answer..." "But we kind of expected this since Kessler decided to face Mehdi Bouadla instead of Renan St-Juste." Other stuff from the same article: Bute made some sparring with the Travis Simms. » Translation: "They hired me to role-play Mendy. I tried to be a real ******* to make Lucian go out of his comfort zone". " Lucian is an exceptional boxer, but he is foremost a very humble man. He have a very good work ethic and knows the sports a lot. It's not by mistake that he became champion".
Being a canadian I trust more Bute's team than Kessler's team. But I can understand Kessler's fans to do the opposite. But in any case, I'm sure that either Bute or Kessler are not ducking, it's the promoter that talks shits.
yeah man, but if you follow the actions of each side you must be ******ed not to know who's who!!!! you know what I mean ????
It's hard not to see that in choosing a righty instead of a lefty, they didnt want Bute in first. But I give you an example, what if they checked the offer and says " the offer is ok, and it's about what we can get, but if we get a belt, we may be able to get more in a Kessler/Bute fight". The fact are that team Kessler since his choice of fight a couple of weeks ago showed they didnt want Bute yet, but we dont know a lot more than that.
i can't understand why pavlik is being written off so easily. i'm no fanboy of his but this is the man who destroyed miranda and taylor before anyone else... and why is bute such a heavy favorite? because manny steward says so? its easy to look like an atg when you rarely fight top tier
Take the money and support the consequences (be in the position to be called a duck). Don't come to Canada to negociate and talk ****. Don't come to the press and talk **** about the lowball offer. Talk ****, hype your name and then take the eassy route. This is a no no ....:rasta
You'll realize soon enough what it is like around here. Win a fight and people start moving you into the top 10 P4P. Lose one and you are washed up. Very few sensible posters here.
Unfortunately, I haven't seen that caliber of Pavlik in years. Instead of working to keep improving once he was champion, he became an alcoholic/got worse (however you want to look at it), and became a lesser fighter once the hunger and 100% focus wasn't there. His reflexes got worse, his offensive variety stagnated, and his usual excellent conditioning and work rate wasn't there, either. He started eating shots he normally wouldn't have. So, I'm not encouraged that Pavlik's sharp enough yet with only one fight back from rehab and I'm still not 100% sold on his focus being at the level it needs to be to improve enough to take out Lucian. A good, strong showing and a great camp for the stay-busy fight would be a really encouraging sign to me. He's got some work to do to get back to the old Kelly Pavlik, but I hope he's got it in him.
i honestly used to hate pavlik. he destroyed my guy taylor and he was my wife's favorite. how can you root for the guy your wife likes? it didn't help that he fought lockett with such incredible arrogance. but after the hopkins loss, he really showed me something. his fight with martinez was great. sure, he lost, but he showed a ton of heart and i found myself rooting for him late in the fight. and even more importantly for me, he showed humility...an asset too few fighters have. i'm pulling for him now. even if it means agreeing with the wife!
