OK, now that my boy is going to be looking for the big fights at 168lbs I am getting more involved with this division. One name I keep hearing as one of the best is Lucian Bute. I have to admit that I have never seen him fight, but looking at his record, has he really done much? His only big wins are against Berrio and Bika. It took him 11 rounds to take out Berrio, I guy I consider to have a horrible chin. He beat Bika pretty nicely on the cards. Bute must not have great power. He does have a lot of KOs, but many of the opponents he finished were much later rounds compared to how other strong fighters beat the same guys. Am I missing something? For you Canadians who I am sure are very knowlegable, how would Pascal vs Bute end?
Bute's the third best Super Middleweight at the moment but he only holds that spot because of his last few fights. He's a neat and tidy boxer but is seemingly nothing special. He is very much third fiddle behind Calzaghe and Kessler. I put him in the same bracket as Froch, Mundine & Inkin as the best of the rest. Fights between these four would be close to call. Bute has power but doesn't seem to want to use it until he's completely worn his opponent down. That's the impression I got from watching the Bika and Berrio fights but some of his bigger fans like Maxime and Decebal could advise you better on this. He doesn't like to take too many risks which is why he'll be more than a match for Miranda - he could pick him off all night. Bute's defence is a bit sloppy at times and he seems to get caught too many times for my liking, he also marks up easily. Miranda has a punchers chance.
bute has been guilty of avoiding big punchers like banks and also guilty of not fighting punching bags with a head attached like porras and has been feasting on tomatoe can big punchers like berrio and strongmen like bika.
Thanks *******. That really helped. Maybe if he fought guys like Pavlik, Abraham, Green or Eastman I would have a better idea who he was.
He's too big for the middleweight division. Plus the best boxers in the SMW div are from Europe... Except one eyed Mundine.
You should respect sean... he is very knowledgable about the division you seek guidence with... play nice
atsch sean was using humour to make a serious point and confront hypocrisy! :deal You said: "what has he really done?" sean said: [to translate for you] "What has Miranda really done except for KOing donkeys like Banks and struggling with potato sacks like Porras". In doing so, sean was not so much disrespectful to Miranda (he ranks him inside the Top 10 at SMW), as having a snipe at you, for being silly and comparing guys like Banks and Porras with Bika and Berrio. sean is a great poster and one of the best analysts on ESB as voted by the lot of us. So, please try to show some respect. :deal :good
you start a thread implying bute has been fed gimmee`s and his record is questionable because he is now in the same divison as miranda. i do not mind any kind of debate , but keep it balanced. bute fought the usual suspects on his way to the title fighters like mock/theobola/tatovesyan/bika ect etc fought berrio a limited but huge punching fighter and came through unscathed his chin passing the test well. bute is in the same position as dawson. good fighter but still to prove some things but will a handfull for most fighters including the elite.
Here's my view: Bute has beaten Bika and Berrio, as PrideOfWales said. In doing so, he's beaten better competition than anyone else at SMW except for Joe (Calzaghe) and Mikkel (Kessler), lately. Joppy is a huge step backwards. However, he is widely expected to fight Librado Andrade in summer. Then, we will know pretty much how good he really is. The ultimate test would of course be against Kessler. We hope they'll fight in 2009. Bute needs to improve a lot on his defense. He gets hit way too much. He wasn't that impressive in his last fight against Berrio. He was rather slow, his stamina seemed relatively poor, he seemed hesitant and weary, his jab was poor and his footwork lacking. He needs to show a big improvement against Andrade. Bute takes his time to figure out an opponent. He takes no unnecessary risks and sticks to the gameplan. This is why he starts quite slow and doesn't go for the win until the latter rounds. Might not be attractice, but it's smart and will pay dividends against dangerous top-class opposition. sean and Maxime are the people to ask about Bute. The way you are going about it...don't bother.
Maybe I expected too much... Bute has spoken about his "hesitancy". It started in the Mock fight, apparently. His trainer said: "I don't want you to KO this guy, as I am sure you can; instead, I want you to concentrate on defence; try to get hit as little as possible whilst boxing." Since then, Bute has become more careful and "hesitant", taking fewer risks and trying to get his less. More work needs to be done, but it was clearly good advice.
Yeah, I agree. He was clearly weary of Berrio's one punch KO power so he showed him too much respect. I don't suppose he'd do that against any other opponent except Froch.
Man you boys are senstive!!!! What the hell did I say wrong? I said I never saw him fight, so I have nothing to go by other than looking at his record? Seeing that, the only decent names I see our Bika and Berrio. To me Berrio is nothing special, other than a decent puncher. Bika is pretty good with a great chin. So than I ask the question.... What am I missing? Obviously there is something in the way he looks and fights that people have him so high on their ranking of SMW. Damn boys, chill out. Just asking a simple question here.....
