If the fight will be in US in pole postition will be: Marcus Johnson and Andre Dirrell Sartison has a decent chance to be next Other options: Stieglitz - unification Bika 2 Martinez at 166 who knows maby even Dawson at 170
I think he was just listing each fighter's last 5 fights... he's never gonna compare both Bika fights, that'd discredit Ward. :yep What's wrong with "He'll fight top 3 SMWs when the S6 is over, might get Dirrell and/or Kessler to fight him in the meantime."????? Thought I somewhat answered the question. If it doesn't cut it for you, STFU until the S6 is over. Period. :good Comparing Bute to Ottke is being super hasty about it, or just flat out ignorant depending on your perspective... Ottke stayed at home his whole career, where as Bute can't fight guys who draw huge numbers before the S6 is over. Once it is, look for him @ MSG or in Vegas for a couple of high profile SMW fights. Might fight 2-3 times a year, and only once or twice in Canada starting mid-2011. Look out. :hi:
:good for all those who noticed me mia me... :cheers Some of you are thinking that Bute's March 19th fight will be in the USA. I can tell you from what my 'sources' tell me that it will be in the Bell Centre. They are keeping the opponent name pretty tight lipped right now, but this tells me that there is no opponent as of yet. I would love to see Dirrell, that would make a great fight. Some others here are saying that Ward would never fight Bute. I can tell you from personal experience knowing many in both camps that this fight will happen. Ward and Bute are both true champions and will not avoid a challenge. Both trainers are very confident in their fighters and they are two of the best in the game. I see Ward winning the SS, taking on a well deserved easier opponent and then a huge showdown will happen on Showtime against Bute. Believe it or not, this fight will happen in Montreal. Yes, Ward will finally leave his backyard! Hopefully they both keep winning and this comes to fruition.
In light of a report out of Youngstown it is indeed interesting that Bute's team is keeping the opponent's name close to the vest, and one can hardly avoid speculation. The report seems to indicate that Pavlik has no intentions of retiring, and so far his stay at the Betty Ford Center sounds like a parallel to at least a half a dozen of his fights. The first two weeks were tough, but since then he's been doing great. How many times have we seen KP struggle in the early rounds, and then come on like a man on fire? Sounds like once again he made the proper "adjustments," and is currently winning this fight. I'm not saying Pavlik will be the opponent, or that he should be. However, considering the lack of "name" opponents who are available, it would not surprise me very much. Especially when we factor in the idea that he planned on fighting Bute after Martinez. I think it's unlikely, but if he took the fight, and managed to win, WOW, what a story that would make.
Tell us who Bute should've fought rather than Miranda and Brinkley, and who he should fight in March. We'll see who exactly he has ducked this past 18 months...
OMFG. Oakland fanboys would be PISSED... and would make fun of Bute's reluctance to fight elsewhere (which would amuse me to the highest level). But hey, they still don't get the fact that Bute draws upwards of 16 000 when facing a B class fighter... a full Bell Centre (21 000+) is plausible for this fight, where as Ward would never draw the equivalent in Vegas or even Oakland. Not with that style.
Interbox and Bute had said in the past that they would fight against the super 6 winner in USA. That's what they thought when Bute signed the contract. I guess tha money talks.
Most fighters are more than happy to go where the money is. In a Bute fight the money is in montreal.
No way Dunkin takes his prize fighter and throws him in with the lions after going through these tough times. He will be brought back slowly. He needs one or two wins under his belt before he takes on a huge risk. Pavlik has lost almost all of his steam and many fans along the way. A few small wins and he will be back in the spotlight and ready for a Bute type fight.
I agree with your logic, and it is probably correct. However, as a recovered alcoholic, with more than 2 decades of involvement in Alcoholics Anonymous, I can assure you that alcoholics with a few months sobriety are far from logical creatures. I'm not saying Bute/Pavlik will happen in March, or that I think it would be a smart move. I'm just saying don't be surprised if it does. It is not at all unusual for a recovering alky to return to his chosen profession with unparalleled enthusiasm. I see no reason why a prize fighter would be exempt from that phenomona.
How about a catch weight fight with Tavoris Cloud? I'm actually afraid they'll offer the fight to Edwin Rodriguez, who fights Pryor jr in January. I like Rodriguez, but like Marcus Johnson, he needs a couple more years of seasoning. I wondered how the Bute fight would've went if it had been Curtis Stevens rather than Brinkley. I think that would've been more competitive, and a good idea how a Dirrell or Ward fight with Bute would go.
