Give Pavlik Stieglitz he held the WBO 160 belt he would sureley be ranked by them at 168 a much easier fight

Two years and many pounds ago. This one is NOT hard to understand is it? He came into the last camp at 185. The bronchitis kept him from even rehydrating above his weigh in weight for the Hopkins fight. He stepped onto the 'unofficial' scales fully dressed to help hide the that. He would be in much better condition, weight wise, to face Hopkins now than he was two years ago. Team Pavlik has been less than honest with the public about a few things, like his weight. I'm sure it happens in other camps as well doesn't it?

Thank you Hermit. Yes it makes perfect sense. add the layoff(staph infection) in which he probably added more natrual weight at that time and I can see how that could happend.

That would be a great start for Pavlik at 168. Stieglitz would give him some rounds but KP's pressure and power would probably end up being too much for him.

well, i'll say that i was under the impression that 160 was more than a viable weight for kelly. when he came into camp at 185, it was reported that he was in the best shape of his life, had more pop than ever, and the weight was coming off as planned. based on this, i expected kelly to be in peak pre-taylor form and to be able to take advantage of some of martinez's bad habits. what i wasnt privy too was the last couple weeks before the fight, the weight just wouldnt come off, that he ran like he stole something up to and including the day of the weigh in and needed the sauna and even began putting a couple lbs back on despite there being a nutritionist monitoring the whole situation. bloating back up to 178 was also a warning sign considering he came into the miranda and taylor fights at 168ish give or take (i think that's right :think)

maybe if the weight had been or could have been controlled pre-camp this wouldnt have been so much of a problem but it just doesnt appear he can make 160 anymore regardless. he's a big kid and maybe the extra 8lbs will make him fresher and more energetic in the ring (at least i hope)

now, as far as the hopkins fight is concerned, this sort of highlights why i want kelly to get his feet wet at 168 before tangling w/ bute. i don't think the weight was the problem in the hopkins fight. hopkins was the problem in the hopkins fight. just b/c your body adjusts to the weight doesnt mean its used to banging around w/ top lhw's. i'm not saying the fight would have been different if kelly would have had a tune up at 170 prior to hopkins but at least he would know what it feels like. that **** is kind of a shock...to be overpowering mw's and then move up and face arguably the best lhw in the world who came into the ring at 180+. i don't think kelly has ever fought anyone that big before....and certainly not that good. that's a tough combination to jump right into.

    Makes sense.

I think the layoff affected his weight. He matured as a man and filled out a lil more. It happends to everyone.

Good read. Wow so forget the weight and Kelly having the flu. I think the real problem was that B-hops had Brother Nazim Richardson , John David Jackson and world famos Mackie Shilstone (and any novice who sees his work can tell you he is incredible) as his troops that he brought to war, while Kelly had Jack.

Bute will be put to sleep by Pavlik, Pavlike will be faster at 168 and bute can't handle getting punched or pressure, think a bigger version of W.Klitschko. Pavlik KO 7 over French sweetie Bute.

well i can't imagine the antibiotics helped...but i just don't see the weight being a burden on kelly so much as hopkins was just a cut above anything (size or skill) that he had ever been in the ring with.

and according to shilstone, hopkins was in a similar (though not as bad) of a situation to kelly in that towards the end of hopkins' reign at mw, he was doing an inordinate amount of roadwork to make the weight and was probably a class or two below his best weight in terms of age and where is body was at physically (mackie's words not mine) but instead of just eating more and relying on his boxing trainer, he got shilstone in to be more of a nutrition trainer and to help him maximize the extra size he'd be bringing into the ring.

i'm not gonna jump on the "ditch jack" bandwagon, but ****...this may be the last real shot kelly has at the big time so throw everything against the wall and hope something sticks. keep jack, but bring on this nutritionist they were working with full to make the most of this jump. that should start soon.

Bute should be favored....I would pick Bute by a Wide decison....However, Bute has tendency to get careless at times....Pavlik could make him pay if he does that...

Personally, I wouldn't throw pavlik into the lions den right away....I think he should take the hatton route....Fight a guy that has a name in the division, maybe an andrade....and it could rejuvenate kelly's carear....

Look what the malignaggi fight did for hatton, lead him to a massive pay-day with pac....

Kelly needs a rebound fight against a notable, credible opponent in the division...
