Unfortunately, yes, it's the best they can have. Look at the rankings. Nobody else is available or wants the fight. If Bika and Green are not part of that eliminator it means they turned it down. It's that simple. They start at the top of the rankings and ask every guy if he wants to take part in a title eliminator. When that guy turns it down for "X" reason they move to the next one. 1- Andrade (will drop in the next rankings) 2- Vacant 3- Abraham (Super Six) 4- Bika (Probably turned it down) 5- Green (Super Six... probably turned it down) 6- Brinkley (He shouldn't be ranked that high but whatever) 7- Balzsay (fighting for the WBO Int. title soon) 8- Miranda (Fighting for the WBO title soon) 9- Dirrell (Super Six) 10- Stevens (Available and American)
Right now it's looking like Ward or Abraham and I'd probably have Bute even money with either right now. With Ward, it would be fascinating to see whose style is asserted dominantly; and with Abraham it'd be a nailbiter with Lucian's tendency to fade and Arthur's to come on strong late.
Bute doesn't really have a tendency to fade. It happened in 1 fight against an extreme pressure fighter. Abraham doesn't apply 25% of the pressure that Andrade does.
He wasn't exactly poppin' fresh the couple of rounds prior to stopping Berrio (another big puncher with a slower, methodical approach). His workrate - and his hands - came down. And Berrio wasn't applying pressure so much as making him give chase and initiate looking to land something big. Bute's no dummy - he knows what Abraham's packing, and he'll expend energy staying the hell away from it (and even more trying to punch through/around the high guard to score points). I still wouldn't count Bute out, though, for sure. :good It would just be dangerous, especially in the championship rounds.
Ward would never allow Bute to fight in the super six, never, and Ward always gets everything his way, ref, home town, judges, almost all three, head butts allowed, for him only, low blows, below the hip even, holding and hitting, elbows, OK if it's Ward, but only Ward. That's my problem with Ward, he has to have everything his way, but the others don't get the same.
Come on Farm, what does Ward have to do with the organization and managing of the Super Six. It was a Sauerland idea, with the promoters and TV networks. I honestly do wish Bute was in there for Direll or Ward myself.
That eliminator fight takes off 2 more names on an already short list of possible opponent for Bute next fight assuming Bute won't fight Pavlik/Miranda in his very next fight. 1- Andrade (Bute just KOed him) 2- Vacant 3- Abraham (Super Six) 4- Bika (Rematch? Would HBO want it? Why take the risk if HBO doesn't pick it up?) 5- Green (Super Six... maybe) 6- Brinkley (Fighting Stevens IBF Eliminator) 7- Balzsay (fighting for the WBO Int. title on Friday, Not a name in the USA) 8- Miranda (Fighting for the WBO title in Jan) 9- Dirrell (Super Six) 10- Stevens (Fighting Brinkley IBF Eliminator) 11- Tsypko (Andrade just beat him) 12- Inkin (Not a name in the USA) 13- Shannon Taylor (lol... enough said) 14- Mendy (Hasn't done much since his draw with Hanshaw on Showtime) 15- Zuniga (Bute KOed him) They might have to look at 160lbs for an opponent. There are some decent opponents at 168lbs for a low profile title defense like Inkin & Mendy. But I think they will try to fight an American or a guy known in the USA even if the fight ultimately doesn't get picked up by US tv. I think perhaps 160lbs fighters like Giovanni Lorenzo or Lajuan Simon could fit the bill.
What about James Kirkland Roy Jones Jr Antonio Tarver Yusaf Mack Vyacheslav Uzelkov . What plans this guys have ? Can any of those guys can go down to fight at supermiddleweight or will Bute chose to go up to fight RJJ or Tarver? He realy want's to make a name in U.S. What will HBO prefer from this list ?
Kirkland is in prison for like 2 years. lol Jones is busy with Green and Hopkins. I'm sure he doesn't even know who Lucian Bute is. lol Tarver is shot to hell and I doubt HBO would want to see him back on their network. Mack is fighting in a 175lbs IBF title eliminator next vs. Murat. Then he gets a shot at Cloud. Vyacheslav Uzelkov: Why would Bute fight some 175lbs untested prospect from Ukraine. How is that going to get him on HBO?
Demers just didn't prove enough and Stevenson is coming along but too green right now and he only has one fight in the past year.
Super 6 really limits Bute's options but will let him dominate a watered down division with all the top guys on hold
Bute is going to have to defend his title against a top 15 opponent. It doesnt look like anyone is worthy of an HBO date. Balzsay's fight this Friday should have no bearing on what he does after and I am sure he would 'drop' the WBO Int belt for a shot at the IBF. But again, why would HBO care for that fight anyway. My thinking is Bute will have no choice but to take an off TV fight, or maybe a lower payday on HBO after dark to stay busy. He will still make good money on ticket sales too. Early in 2010 more will be known about Green's status in the Super Six and the winner of the Miranda/Stieglitz fight. So Bute either takes 6+ months off or takes a lower payday fight sooner to stay busy.
