Butter Bean Esch vs Tony Galento

Bean takes it though it would be entertaining

 

Battle of the bellys.

Galento fought better compeition and fought in longer fights, so if he can outbox the Bean I'd take him.
But if Beans righthand lands on Tony's chin....good night!

I can't see Galento trying to outbox Butterbean, so I'll take Bean by knockout.

 

Galento was a serious fighter who beat some of the best fighters in the world. He knocks out Butterbean.

 

This is a total mismatch.

Galento might have been fat but he was a bona fide ranked contender who beat other bona fide ranked contenders.

Butterbean by comparison is a circus sideshow.

I would even go as far as to say that this match up is positively insulting to Galento. Rather like asking who would win between Butterbean and James Toney.

 

Louis was able to floor Two-Ton with his textbook combination punching, but Baer and Nova weren't able to land him. Bean can take a punch, which is a good thing, because he may have to take a helluva lot of them from Tony. If he could manage to withstand whatever Galento dished out, Tony was perfectly capable of winning a decision. And his filthy 14 round TKO against Nova showed that he had the staying power Esch has never demonstrated. And Tony proved against Louis that if he was somehow hurt, he could come back with a vengeance. Only Louis was able to drop Tony, but not for the count. A tough and durable sonofagun.

 

Well Toney did draw with Rahman (though he should've lost) and beat an aging Holyfield. While those are not claims to greatness, i don't think he deserves to be compared with Butterbean (same for Galento).

Butterbean had that impressive first round KO of Johnny Knoxville in a shop but i'm pretty sure that Galento (a legit contender) knocks him out in the first round.

 

Galento, despite his many flaws, was a real fighter who fought in the legitimate pro ranks. He fought 10 rounds often, and also went into the now obsolete 13th and 14th rounds. He was a contender. He knocked out real fighters. He was stocky and tubby, sometimes perhaps 30 or 40 pounds overweight.

Butterbean is a freak show. A post modern joke. An ironic statement on American society. Surely.
His only venture beyond 4 rounds and anywhere near the legit ranks of pro boxing was a 10 round loss to a 52 year-old Larry Holmes.
Butterbean is obese, probably 150 pounds overweight.

 

What's obsolete is the 12 round limit, and it has been obsolete ever since the WBC imposed it after Chacon/Limon IV.

 

I know it is sadistic and does not speak well for my charactor, but I would hope that in the Galento-Butterbean match the referee and his seeing eye dog stay far enough away from the action for Butterbean to get what he has coming to him.

Not the ideal word for what I mean but the best I can think of.

They dont have 13th and 14th rounds now, that's the extent of what I'm saying.

Comparing Galento to the "king of the four rounders" is insane when you consider that Galento went longer distances than any active fighter has, barring perhaps only Holyfield and maybe some other old (45+ year old) veterans who went 15.

 

Illogical matchup. Galento would KO the fat circus act Butterbean in the 1st round, I don´t need to write reasons...
