Willard beat a 37 year old Jack Johnson Butterbean lost to a 52 year old Larry Holmes That age difference is long enough to be a solid career.
Also, Bean did not drop Holmes. It was ruled a knockdown, but wrongly. Watch it. Holmes slipped. You can see him arguing with the ref after the ref starts the count. I actually thought Holmes looked pretty good in the fight given his age. Jab still looked good, his 1-2 was still surprisingly fast, and he seemed to still have some pop to his punches. If there had been a grandpa-league in the sport, that Holmes could have been the HW champ. I'm a Butterbean fan. He certainly showed up ready to fight every time and kept up the action, but that fight with Holmes showed how much he actually lacked in terms of skill and technique.
Willard Vs Holmes is nothing to do with it. The comparison is between Willard beating a 37 year old Jack Johnson and Butterbean losing to a 52 year old Larry Holmes. Butterbean was 35 when he lost to Holmes. Not old for a late starter. He was 29 when he was knocked out by a professional loser in Mitchell Rose, when was his supposed prime?
Bean's prime was 97/98. Holmes was in 2002. Nobody with that kind of BMI will be prime at 35. This is about Bean drilling Willard, not you cherry picking fights off their resumes.
This content is protected It's telling that size, and in fact just weight as Willard beat taller opponents, is all that you have to try and make that a credible win. Plus it was in 2000, if that's his best win, it puts his loss to a 52 year old Holmes pretty close to his prime.
Cool story, I'm not going to destroy you again. BitPlayerVesti did enough to make you look miserable.
That's the last fight of Linberger's career. The poor guy was never the same after Bean destroyed him. That's seven years later. Foolish of you to post that. Yes, Bean ruined the guy in 2000 while not even being in his own prime. Not sure how that's a negative. As for Willard, I'd imagine that a Frankenstein type of guy who started boxing in his late twenties would have trouble dealing with an overhand right that had 300+ pounds behind it.
So this is prime Butterbean, right? This content is protected He looks even worse than against Holmes here. He'd stand no chance against Willard.
We could have a field day with Willard, but there isn't anything resembling modern film. And no that wasn't Bean's prime. He hadn't even won the IBA belt yet. It should've been obvious that I was referencing that.
