By nature of the business, boxing cannibilize's itself.

We need to stop the bickering everyday about this promoter and that, just face the facts and quit pretending like there is some perfect play to grow the sport, because there isn't. The very nature of the sport constantly has the sport destroying the product that is built. When the best face the face you have no stars because everyone loses. When you build stars by giving them soft touches then everyone complains and says "see, this is why boxing will never become mainstream" Boxing is much same now that is was before, we just had the biggest fight that has ever been and people are acting like it's in the worse state it's ever been in.

We should have another mega fight coming in November with Cotto Canelo, and I'm liking three G David. So definitely two mega fights on the year, and the usual smattering of decent to good fights throughout. Boxing is as good or better than it's been the last couple of decades. And please don't get nostalgic and bring up good ol' yesteryear, because the only thing that's changed between then and now is people's interest has gone down in the boxing as football, basketball etc. have come up because they are consistently able to bring a high level of comp as they, unlike boxing, do not get their product destroyed. A loss does not mean in other sports what it "means" in boxing. That's why they were able to consistently grow year over year while boxing was not. So stop the bickering and just be glad the sport is still around to give us a coupe of big fights a year like it usually has for decades.

I hope more people on this site read your statement. This new phenomenon of being arm chair promoters and lawyers is out of hand. We need to get back to basics. Just be a fan, the politics are never in the peoples favor, in boxing or in life.

I think the main problem(especially on boxing forums), is that people like to hate on fighters and dismiss fighters after one loss.

The first problem is that people seem to bash on fighters, very needlessly. If you don't like something about a fighter like their style or personality, that's ok. But far too often people bash on fighters endlessly almost as if they did something personal against them. One example is Golovkin, I honestly don't get the hate for this guy. Even if you dislike him because his opposition is less than other fighters. That doesn't allow you to act like everything he does inside and outside the ring is bad. Another example are the "boring"fighters, guys like Ward,Mayweather, and Lara. Ok these guys don't have a style you like, but don't try to make it as if these guys are a "disgrace" to boxing.

Second problem is that people dismiss fighters after one loss. As you said in boxing there is almost always a loser. But that's ok. Pac losing to Mayweather doesn't make him an unskilled hype-job. Porter losing to Brook doesn't mean that Porter is automatically a B fighter. Hell Hopkins lost his very first fight and look what he's accomplished.

Nice. The media has a lot to do with this too. Especially over at HBO with Jim Lampley. They didn't start this Gatti list , boring fighter mess until Mayweather left them for showtime. It is a super petty thing to do but this is show business after all. Now if you don't stand there and let a guy beat you into a coma you are a coward, unless of course they like you. Then you are an evasive boxing maestro.

People are heavily influence by what someone says on a screen. We are the generation that Pavlov creamed his pants about at night.

Completely agree. HBO very obviously has bias that I use to not think existed. Then again the same is true for just about every network. PBC goes nuts over Thurman, based on watching them you'd think he's the next Sugar Ray Leonard. And they build him up as this super aggressive knockout artist when in fact recently he's been pot-shotting a lot more. And at the moment the only guys you'll ever hear HBO talk about are Cotto, Golovkin, and Canelo. I haven't heard them talk about other fighters since May-Pac.

Appreciate that man but unfortunately, like most of my posts, this one will probably fall on deaf ears as well. It's like people are always looking for something to be mad or miserable about, it gets old and stunts meaningful conversation.

In the past, the big fights got made. Sometimes the best fought each other four or five times. Modern fans are being cheated, paying more and getting less.

most of the time they dont wait for a loss they say every time he fights that it will be his first loss because he sucks or was wobbled by a punch...a "knockout waiting to happen". too many morons, and with way too much time

I cannot believe you can make a thread like this after Mayweather v Berto gets signed.

    Boxing is a freaking joke.

The UFC puts on a good card EVERY WEEK and consistently get their best fighters to face off.

Boxing is a complete trash these days.

The sport will limp along like it always has and there will be the odd great popping up here and there and there will be good fights and good fighters still. I quite like modern boxing.
But sorry, it's foolish to suggest the sport is just fine and just as good as it was in the past.
Maybe it's just a cycle, I don't know, but look at the quality of the fighters of the 70's, 80's and 90's and look at them now.
There are some standouts now, but by and large division for division you cannot compare.
You realise as well that in the past you could watch the sport's biggest star for free, right? What are you paying for Mayweather-Berto again?

The sport needs a megastar again...someone to revive the public's interest in the game.

Don't worry, the sport will outlive you just as it did many idiots that claimed "Boxing is killing(or eating, in your case) itself" before you.
