BYB Extreme Bareknuckle Fighting VII: Brawl by the River - René Rodríguez vs. Jomi Escoboza RBR

Whiteboy Rodríguez is eight years older and giving up 4" in height and 3" of reach, and made the limit with four pounds to spare. (two pounds for Escoboza)

 

Round 1

Rodríguez is having a hard time getting past the long southpaw jab of Escoboza. Cagey first couple of minutes. They circle and paw out range-finders, then once in a while Rodríguez surges in and they scrap chaotically until backing away by mutual assent with neither having taken any really clean hits.

Round 2

Escoboza standing tall and jabbing down at Rodríguez at his leisure, sometimes ducking and drilling a left into the stomach when he gets Rodríguez circling up against the ropes. Very little action here. Rodríguez discouraged, with Escoboza simply back-stepping every time he leaps in with a flurry, and swatting down at him with right hooks. One cuffs Rodríguez behind the neck and he falls into a faceplant just before the bell, correctly not called a KD.

Jomi's technique isn't particularly neat and tidy - he's just getting by on his sundry physical advantages here.

"Archangel calls himself annoying, and he is annoying. Rodríguez is annoyed, because of that annoying jab. He continues to successfully annoy Rodríguez. He is very annoying".

 

30-27. Negative but effective BS. Not sure why Escoboza is showboating and interacting with the crowd before sitting on his stool between rounds - they're not giving him any love, clearly unhappy with the pace and style of the fight that he is dictating.

 

Escoboza looks like Jorge Masvidal (hair, body, face) but couldn't be any more different stylistically and in temperament.

 

Four zip...Rodríguez is trying for the come from behind KO, but unfortunately his attempts consists of haymakers followed up by desperate, wild backhands on the rebound. Escoboza just leaning away from everything, keeping his chin hovering at safe altitude, pecking and scratching at Rodríguez with light straight counters.

 

Entering the "championship rounds" (sixth and seventh, under this rule set) - Rodríguez hopeless without a KO.

 

Nothing left to wait for, Whiteboy. Empty the clip now.

 

It was dull as hell, but Escoboza did what he needed to secure the belt, playing matador and making Rodríguez look awful in what should be a shutout. Rodríguez for his part never even blinked at the punches coming his way but his face is all chewed up...meanwhile it doesn't appear like he touched Escoboza once.
