i think byrd is done. he took a horrible beating against wlad. he looked awful against povetkin. dropping 35 pounds that quickly is gonna be hell on his body too. his reaction time has slowed down.

Byrd isn't a natural Light Heavyweight, I bet you anything that he is cutting weight like hell to get there. In reality though, he can drop about 15-20 pounds of water weight alone. I have seen him train for heavyweight fights, and he used to even train hard as hell with Solar suits on. So, if he is training his ass off, and wearing Solar suits... and still fighting at Heavyweight... he sure as hell isn't a natural Light Heavyweight. Drastically cutting weight down as far as you can go isn't your "natural" weight. Your natural weight is what you weigh after a good training camp WITHOUT cutting weight.

Didn't he fight at Middle Weight at some point? I think he would be better suited for Cruiserweight than Light Heavyweight personally.

Byrd actually had to work hard to be a heavyweight. I remember reading an article some years back were he had to be careful not to let his weight get too low. It talked about how he got the flu once and dropped down to 180 pounds, which isnt that much since he was only around 200 to start with

I think he'll do well and I am looking forward to his debut on May 16 on Friday Night Fights.

    Good luck, Byrd.

Nor is he a natural Cruiserweight or Heavyweight.

Did you conveniently forget what weight class Chrissy fought all of his amateur bouts at and three of his pro fights?

GO AHEAD AND SAY IT, WIDDOW FAKER.

Exactly as I see it. :good

He proably had to eat more than he wanted and had to hit the weight bench a bit more, in order to maintain the heavyweight stature.

I think at light heavy, he'll suprise everyone with how well he does when he works his way up to the bigger names.....and at light heavy, there are plenty of bigger names to test Byrd.

    Looking forward to it. :good

    agreed 100%

In addition, lightheavies will be alot faster than slow moving heavyweights, Byrd is doomed in this division

So Oscar De La Hoya is a natural 130-135 pounder? He fought his amateur career at 132 and below... and fought 130-135 for a good bit (A hell of a lot longer than Byrd fought below Heavyweight). So, by your standards Oscar is a natural Jr. Lightweight or Lightweight.

It's a desperate attempt to save his career. I think that he went all the way to Light Heavyweight in order to try and be able to use power. He knew that at Cruiserweight, he would just be giving up his speed advantage, and wouldn't be gaining anything much in the power department. At Light Heavyweight, he will be a more powerful fighter, even though he will be giving up his usual speed advantage. I am sure that he will enter the ring at 185 or higher.
