The fight is a mis-match. Byrd is in shape. It matters not. Povetkin has too much offense, speed of hand and foot, stamina, and punch variety for Byrd to win. I also feel that Povetkin has good defense, and countering abilityÂ…enough to catch Byrd if Byrd tries fight.
Byrd will not do much better than Donald. That is my prediction.

go up to v bookie, its pretty simple. I put 400 on Povetkin to win, and 50 by knockout.

    thanks Decker.

I think the problem comes from a lack of interest in boxing on a national level.
There are just no names, but its not the fighters faults. Its been going on for at a while now. And it doesn't matter the quality of the fighter. Very few people outside of the boxing world knew who Lennox Lewis was until he took on Holyfield (in the US).

In the US, the latin fighters get recognized because its part of the community environment. De La Hoya is a major star, to say the least.

I can't talk to the average person about boxing, I always get the feeling that it is like I am talking about wwe or something. Completely different.

Ask the average US sports fan who the heavyweight champion is and most will admit to having no clue, many will say Tyson or somebody.

My pick is Povetkin by DEC, but I think with Byrd in top form and at a low weight look for him to box move and hit Alex with enough counters to discourage him into getting too agressive, unless Byrd has slipped badly, conditioning will be a factor and late round stamina, Alex must put the pressure on and if Chris lays on the ropes, Alex will have his way there, Byrd has to move ,Jab, counter and not rest on the ropes. I see the fight being close with a 1-2 round edge for Alex but If Alex does any better I will be Very impressed

Not even at this stage of his career are there any heavyweights out there with the skills of Byrd. Say what you want about his style and it not being visually pleasing to most. But Byrd countering and defensive abilities are again still unmmatched. The only reason people are picking him to lose is because of the Klichko fight and that fight he probably fought the dumbest fight he could have fought.

If he loses to a guy who has less than 15 fight (I don't care how good he is) then he needs to retire but I can't see Byrd losing to a guy this "green".

125-7 amateur record and Olympic champ isn't too green.

I'm a huge Byrd fan, always been since his early days, and part of me wants him to win.

I also like this Povetkin kid and want to believe he's the real deal. He certainly looks it so far.

I think this boils down to Povetkin being too aggressive and strong for an older Chris Byrd. A Chris Byrd who's reflexes aren't what they once were and who hasn't been spinning out of trouble like he used to for several years now.

Even as a Byrd fan, I have to apply logic here and think that Povetkin's pressure will negate Byrd's more cautious counterpunching style and quite probably lead to a late round stoppage or at least a UD.

We'll know much more about Povetkin after this fight.
