He has decided to give the matter some thought and prayer. Here is a thought Chris, you don't have a prayer. I am a big fan but you looked worse than crap in your last fight.
All that wt loss hurt him. His legs are like pencils. He has 0 offense. All he does is parry his opponents jab. Horrible to watch. Give it up, Byrdman.:deal
I had my doubts about him retiring just yet, even after that terrible performance. He should probably retire, but maybe he sees something he can do to be competitive agian. Maybe not world class, but what else can he do to make boxing money, even on the B or C level? I guess he's willing to risk his health to make whatever money he can still make, and he may even still have hope of working his way back up the ranks............athough noone else believes that.
Really? I seriously hope does not continue his career, he's a had a very good career and there's nothing more to do.
I have always told you guys. With Chris it has NEVER been about the money. It has always been about the love of boxing, the competition and the fans. In fact he made very little for his last fight and was, in his words, "For the fans". To paraphrase a recent article, Byrd said, "I could have held out for a HBO or Show Time fight, they were in the works but I wanted to make my first fight at LH a "free fight" for the fans. I could have taken a bigger money, low risk fight but I wanted it to be a good competitive free fight. It was free anyway".
we will have a next Holyfield It's so sad but on the other hand you have to realize that these guys love what they do and their whole lifes ve been about boxing and when they retire it's hard to fill up that gap so they keep on fighting so that perhaps one more time they'll have one big fight. That's why I admire Lewis so much.
I hope he retires. I hate to see fighter's ruin their legacy by going to far and risking serious injury.
For some guys its just to hard to give up the only thing they have known for a very large part of their life...................its been Byrds job for the last 10 years if not more what if someone told you that you can no longer work in your present job EVER again. They have taken away your comfort zone, Chris is probably thinking Damn what am I going to do now for a crust. Yes I admitt for his health he should get out, but the problem is he can still make some decent coin being cannon fodder for up and commers. If he does want to continue I hope he moves to Cruiserweight, where he wont be so weak. Even then i think hes shot.
I think not only the money, and love of the sport, as Flatlander said, but it must also be very tough to come to grips with not having your ego stroked, and being somewhat famous, anymore. The rush of adrenaline they must feel when the crowd roars as they make their way out of the backroom and across the arena.............that feeling of power and fame must be addictive and very hard to let go of. Some of the big names in boxing must live the life of rock stars, with women throwing themselves at them, and being treated like royalty when out in public.....I know I'd have a hard time letting that go.
If he really needs money than go for it, but he really needs to stop. He looks all skinny at this weight, and he is not his former self anymore. Too many punches from big guys I guess. Byrd is done, he can pray all day it aint gonna do ****
Outside of a going back to HW for a 4 round win over Butterbean, I don't see many lucrative fights Byrd could win anymore.
