Byrd/Williamson was WAY worse than Klitschko/Ibragimov.

Yes, it was. At least watching Wlad/Sultan there was some intrigue, because many were expecting a Wlad KO up until the final bell.

So what? Byrd-Williamson wasn't a big unification fight promoted as "the first step towards salvaging the heavyweight division".

So now we're going to lower our standards because other recent bad hw fights (eg one with a blown-up cruiserweight/lightheavyweight) have been out there aswell?
I guess that is a testament of the low point the hw division has reached...(are there any young hw rising stars out there? Any?)
and the low standards we ask of the recognized hw champion (uppercuts anyone? Maybe some hooks? Bodyshots are probably wishful thinking by now).

watch sultan's last 2 fights against briggs and holyfield. now those were way worse. but wlad did fail to capitalize on the event.

...and Oquendo vs Ruiz is the worst of them all. People will get over this fight, but it was not a satisfying fight given its importance.

Yeah, it's easy to think of worst HW title fights this decade.
But not ones that had such attention and importance attached. Just really bad timing for a fight like that, really.

I forget, who'd you pick to win the fight?

Let's be honest. It was a boring fight. Was it the worst heavyweight title fight ever? Hell no. I could name many worse from the last ten years alone. (Usually involving Ruiz.) But was it anywhere near a good fight? Nope. Was it a blown opportunity to regain the interest of casual fans? Yep. Was it all Klitschko's fault? No. He was fighting a speedy southpaw who was only interested in catching him with a counter. Styles make fights. That said, after the sixth round, Wlad should've stepped it up. It didn't look like Sultan was about to catch him with anything. Wlad wasn't having much trouble landing the right and he could've taken Sultan out if he'd been busier. If the fight had ended in the mid to late rounds with a KO, everybody would've forgiven the tactical nature of the fight up until then.
